First off, you should get your property surveyed, have the county come out and find all your lines. This service is free in VA, not sure where you live. Once you have uncovered where all your lines are (and don't forget the septic system) you can plant pretty much anywhere those lines and septic tank aren't. Just keep in mind the size the tree will grow to be, and don't plant too close to any structures. It may look odd when it's small, but as it grows and branches out, you'll be glad it's further away from the house.
