Decorating With Pink

How to add pink paint, accessories and furniture to kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms.

Not all wall colours will make you feel like you’re living in a little girl’s room. For a pretty, whimsical look, Benjamin Moore’s Wild Pink (2080-40) is a vivid shade of pale pink. Walls this colour can easily be balanced out with others like pale green or chartreuse. Pair it with bright white for a modern feel or creamy ivory for a more traditional look.

Pair a bright, saturated pink, like Sherwin-Williams’ Exuberant Pink (6840) with a deep chocolate brown like Benjamin Moore’s Mocha Brown (2107-20) for a hip, contemporary statement. Add geometric patterns and white accents for a true modernist touch.

Other top pink paints include Calamine by Farrow & Ball for a soft, subtle look, and Benjamin Moore’s Lilac Pink (2074-40) for a modern look with an exotic twist.

If you prefer a neutral wall, then simply punctuate a space with pink, adding cool finds like Umbra’s Oh chair in pink. Soft accessories like pillows and throws are easily changeable and can add instant punch to a room. Here are some tips for adding pink around the house:

Living Room

Drape a pink throw over a sofa or add floor pillows in hot pink silk or velvet damask. Don’t forget fresh flowers: pink roses or lilies add instant colour and fragrance.

Bedroom

Warm up your bed linens with pillow shams or a blanket in pink cotton or cashmere; pair with a white duvet cover for a modern, sophisticated look.

Bathroom

To add a dose of pretty to your bathroom, buy white hand towels edged in pink or simply add a few solid pink towels to your white collection. Try placing a fuchsia pink bathmat in an all-white bathroom for a modern edge.

Dining Room

For an updated look, layer hot pink placemats over a crisp, white tablecloth or add vibrant pink flowers to the table for a jolt of fresh style. For a sweet and cheerful table, pick up a few pieces of china in pretty pink patterns and combine them with white, grey or black dinnerware.

Kitchen

To help out a great cause, pick up KitchenAid’s limited edition line of small appliances in pink including a stand mixer, food processor and blender. A portion of each appliance sold is donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation as part of KitchenAid’s Cook for the Cure campaign.
