Eclectic Living Room
Take time to browse antique markets.
Toronto designer and HGTV host Thomas Smythe hunts through antique markets for valuable pieces with an affordable price tag. "I am a devotee of local antique markets. Toronto's St. Lawrence Market is a part of my routine every Sunday morning. On any given visit I run into favourite dealers, fellow designers and friends who love the hunt!" he says. "Even when I travel, I seek out whatever local outdoor or weekend market I can find. My home is filled with finds from markets all over the map. New York (the Antiques Garage), London (Bermondsey and Portobello markets) and Palm Beach are cities I visit often enough to have favourite dealers. There's always something that catches my eye." Take a cue from his former living room and ground antiques with contemporary accents like a simple white sofa and graphic striped rug.
