Clashing Patterns

Mix-and-match patterns for an eclectic look.

In fashion designer Lyn Devon's fall 2011 line, elegant Oriental prints and sheer stripes mixed to elevate her loungewear. The entryway of Toronto decorator Holly Dyment also plays with pattern, combining a bold striped wallpaper hung horizontally — one of Holly's favourite tricks — with graphic black and white marble flooring and a punchy green Designers Guild fabric on the bench. She may break conventional rules of colour and pattern, but the result is bright, cheerful and welcoming.
