c/o The Maidstone in New York

The Josef Frank room pays homage to the famed Swedish pattern designer.

If a trip to Sweden isn’t in the cards this summer, consider spending a few days stateside at c/o The Maidstone. The recently renovated inn, in the heart of tony East Hampton, N.Y., is serious about becoming a carbon-neutral operation (its water is filtered on-site and electricity is sourced from eco-smart power providers), but its 19 rooms — named after famous Scandinavians, like architects Josef Frank and Eero Saarinen — are pure whimsy. Bold Svenskt Tenn fabrics, checkered Hästens mattresses and Swedish antiques meet the current craving for mood-lifting colour.
