Artist Martha Sturdy and her husband David Wardle left the exterior unchanged when they purchased this cottage on Preston Island, B.C., adding only the granite fireplace and patio. Martha's son Jordan, a farmer in Pemberton, gave her flats of thyme; she planted it between the rocks to give off a beautiful herbaceous smell. Her brother constructed the cedar table and benches.
