Symmetrical Living Room

Anchor a seating area with large artwork.

The bold painting in this room, by French-Canadian artist Jean McEwen, creates drama in a traditional setting. "A relaxed, inviting ambience is achieved by using furniture with simple lines, and plain but luxurious fabrics, such as the mohair velvet on the wing chairs," explains interior designer Sloan Mauran."This, along with the plain carpet, makes the mood less formal." Original panel moulding also accentuates the height of the 12-foot ceilings.
