How to make icy lanterns to accessorize for the holidays.
Illuminate the way for holiday guests by lining a windowsill or pathway with these icy lanterns enhanced with lacy cedar branches and berries. As the ice hardens, the plant materials shift and settle into unique patterns.
Materials and Tools
- A pair of containers for each ice candle (one fitting inside the other)
- Evergreen snippets
- Twigs
- Berries
- Small pine cones
- Pebbles
- Tape
- Tealights
Step 1
Tape the smaller container inside its larger counterpart so that the tops are flush. Place pebbles in the small container to weigh it down.
Step 2
Fill half of the large container with water. With a skewer, arrange the trimmings as desired in the space between the two containers. Freeze.
Step 3
Pour water into the remaining half of the mould. Re-freeze.
Step 4
To unmould, dunk the container in a bucket of warm water until the icy form inside slides out. Remove the small container and insert a tealight.
