A black granite counter, pendant lights and upholstered bar stools modernize a classic kitchen.

For her kitchen remodel, Tara Lawrence wanted a design that would transcend trends. Before she chose her cabinets, she laid out magazines from the past ten years on her living room floor and dissected the photos of kitchens that had come and gone. "I wanted to figure out what they all had in common, and white seemed to be the most timeless option," she says. "The kitchen has been finished for a year, and I still walk in every day and think how lovely it is."
