Shrub Roses
Careful pruning is the key to the perfect rose bush.
Cut back dead wood in the spring, but wait until after blooming to do a heavy pruning job on shrub roses. Pay special attention to the sprouts growing from the graft — those lumps sitting just above the soil. These should be pruned right back to keep energy from being diverted away from the plant.
