When she bought it in August 2009, Claire Stubbs never imagined her three-storey semidetached home could look as striking as it does now. “To be honest, I was in love with the neighbourhood, but not the house,” she says of the west Toronto location. The interior was dark, narrow and highly compartmentalized, like most Victorian homes of its style. So Claire, a freelance food stylist, pored over her stack of design magazines until she was able to envision a transformation that suited her contemporary tastes.
