H&H editor-in-chief Suzanne Dimma and her husband, Arriz + co's Arriz Hassam, designed this cottage with the environment in mind. Built completely off-the-grid, on 45 sweeping acres on Drag Lake in Ontario’s Haliburton Highlands, it blends with the natural surroundings. Quality, simplicity and comfort were key when it came to the design and decorating. They removed few trees to build it and run the house on solar power. A high-efficiency wood-burning stove provides heat. To round out its self-sufficiency, the cottage also features a propane stove and a compost toilet.
