Small Space Appliances - House & Home

Discover the latest appliances, perfect for a cramped galley kitchen or tiny apartment, in this article brought to you by Whirlpool.

Stuck in a tight space? Condo and apartment dwellers can rejoice — sleek innovations in refrigerators, cooktops, wall ovens, hoods and laundry appliances offer ample features without sacrificing style or square-footage. Here are the latest products perfect for smaller spaces from KitchenAid, Maytag, Whirlpool and Jenn-Air:

Slim Refrigerators That Don't Sacrifice Style

Most French door refrigerators come in at 33" to 36" in width, but a few extra inches make a big difference when it comes to small spaces. Typically, tight spaces can only accommodate a refrigerator with a top freezer. Now, Maytag, Whirlpool and KitchenAid have all come out with new narrow French-Door refrigerators. The new 30" size offers the same great style and function of a standard French door refrigerator, while fitting into tight spaces.

The KitchenAid Architect Series II 20 Cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator includes unique slide-away shelves that allow room for larger items. For those who prefer external water dispensers, the Maytag 19.6 cu. ft. French Door Refrigerator is an option to consider. Whirlpool's new 30" French Door refrigerators provide ample storage — a full-width pantry drawer neatly holds party platters and sheet cakes with ease.

Condo Cooking Appliances

Standard ovens and cooktops range from 30" to 37" in width, cutting into storage space and room on the countertop for food prep. A smooth 24" built-in electric oven or cooktop from KitchenAid or Maytag fits beautifully in a compact kitchen. The new 24" induction, electric and gas cooktops each offer four cooking zones, too.

Maytag's new built-in oven features retractable knobs for a truly smooth finish. The KitchenAid gas cooktop also includes a 4-Crown Wok Burner to securely hold bowl-shaped pans. A matching 24" ventilation hood looks stylishly industrial without occupying a lot of space, yet easily clears smoke, grease and odour.

For those unable to renovate, or without space for a hoodvent, Jenn-Air's downdraft cooktops capture smoke, steam and odours at the cooking surface and hold an innovative duct-free ventilation kit in the cabinetry below.

When renovating a small kitchen, look for smartly designed appliances with smaller widths.
