Warm Fall Decorating

Add warm and inviting textures and colours to your living room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom.

Embrace the season by making small changes that will turn your living space into an inviting cocoon to curl up in. Here are a few ways to update your home for fall.

Kitchen & Dining Room

Cover the table in a patterned fabric square in warm autumnal colours. For a centerpiece, fill a large chunky wood bowl with persimmons, red pears or artichokes.

Bathroom

Introduce loads of texture. Hang a luxurious terry, matelassé or Ultrasuede shower curtain, switch the summer weight bathmat with something thick and plush in a dark, rich colour and complete the room with accessories in metal, wood or resin.

Bedroom

Take down-filled comforters out of storage and add an extra coverlet for texture and warmth. Put away light-toned bedding and pull out sheets and covers in deep tones and rich colours to give your bedroom the look of fall.

Add toss pillows and throws to the bed in luxurious velvet or mohair for an instant fall update. A faux-fur throw draped over the end of the bed will give the room an instant luxe and sumptuous look.

Living Room

Bring out the area rugs. While summer calls for exposed hardwood or tile, cooler months mean colder floors on bare feet. A plush area rug will add warmth and texture to a room and make it feel much more comfortable and inviting.

Remove summer slipcovers to show off your furniture’s darker upholstery underneath. Cover up summery throw pillows with rich fabrics like suede, velvet or felt. A wooly throw draped over a sofa or armchair adds instant warmth and colour.

Draw attention to the fireplace. Replace summery mantel accessories with gem-coloured vases, heavy pottery pieces and warm wood or black frames. Take fireplace tools out of storage and acquire a few fire logs for those cool evenings ahead. Create extra seating with comfy oversized floor cushions to attract guests to the fireplace.
