Apple Brown Betty Recipe

Recipe:

Step 1: Heat oven to 375°F. Using 1 tbsp of the butter, liberally coat a 1-1/2-quart shallow baking dish. In a medium bowl, toss apples with lemon juice to coat.

Step 2: In a small bowl, combine cake or breadcrumbs with 4 tbsp melted butter. Add remaining ingredients to apples and toss thoroughly to combine. Spread 3 tbsp of the crumb mixture onto the bottom of the baking dish and top with half the sliced apples. Drizzle cider over apples and top with half of the remaining crumbs. Dot with half of the remaining melted butter. Repeat with the remaining apples, crumbs and butter.

Step 3: Bake for 30 minutes. Raise oven temperature to 450°F; continue baking until top is golden brown and apples are tender, about 15 minutes. Remove from oven; cool for 10 minutes. Serve warm with scoops of vanilla ice cream.
