Gosh I a gushing over my floors in my old house......I wanted to show you guys them...I have them in the dining room and all 3 bedrooms....but the best part....they are in my kitchen under the linoleum floor...but I will have to rip out the linoleum and the plywood to get to them and then sand and stain them...but I think we might try that project over the winter........I just love them...they have the real nail heads in the floor boards.....really cool.............

Fabulous floors! I'm envious for sure. It loosk as though they have been taken care of very well. I wish my 30-year-old floors looked HALF as good!
Oh I know all about those things with my recent learning curve. Be warned, they basically only work in straight lines. So things like furniture, walls, and such block the sound waves which means some stinkin rodent could be sitting on the other side of a chair or something sticking it's tongue out while waving with it's thumbs in it's ears. I was also told the whatever it is that runs the things tends to lose strength after a few months. I guess they'll be easier to test in the summer as they are also supposed to keep bugs away.
As for that snake, you can send it here. I have a new appreciation for things that eat rodents these days and would love to have a snake take up residence in my garage (well as long as it was one that wouldn't like my dog or my foot for dinner)
Amazing floors. Can't wait to see pics of the kitchen once you finish the floors in there. You can't beat the quality of older flooring. Lucky you :)
And look at all the space! Beautiful floors. Stunning house! My dream house.
Ooohhhhhh, I would give my right arm for those floors! I love our house, but there's no mystery to what I would find if I ripped up our carpet - 2 year old plywood subfloor and that's about it. It looks like you found a real gem there!
dbd..
Yes we have owls and such so I never thought about that as a benefit to keep the "m" population at bay.......I did buy those sonar contraptions that you plug into the wall.....one for the upstairs, basement and downstairs...they each cover a 500 sq ft area.....I am not sure if they work...but so far all is good......keeping my fingers crossed.......everytime I open my cuboards or the basement door....I brace myself hoping not to see one.........................haven't seen any droppings so that is a good sign.............but I tell ya what we did see by the pool the other day.............a SNAKE......holy crap.....no more walking around in bare feet......it was slithering under the rock which is our steps to the pool.............OMG...it was black with a cream color stripe down its side....................that was a reality check.....we are definately in the country.... ...................the best is when I drive into my driveway...the chipmunks are running to hide....my kids call them "chippy".........I noticed a hole under my driveway...and I understand that they live in burrows underground.........they seem to pop up at the other end of the house.......so I am sure they have a few holes on our property that they call home.......... :D
As Smoodgie mentioned, the m word is enough to make the hair on my arms stand these days. BTW being in the country has nothing to do with those things. I live as close to the center of a city as can be and they are here. They are everywhere, no place is safe but chances are you have some owls or hawks or something on your land to keep them in check.
tryntodecorate, I love everything about your new house, its amazing. I grew up in a century farm house about 150 + years old, and we had the same kind of floors that you have. I just loved them, 12 inch boards you just can't find things like that anymore. Congrats on your new house, cant wait to see all your decorating projects.
I love your old farmhouse. It reminds me of the original fieldstone farmhouse my ancestors built. There was a huge room similar to your master bedroom which was on the back of the farmhouse. It was originally used to house all the hired men that would temporarily come and work during the busy seasons. Thanks for sharing the pictures. The hardwood and the wainscotting in your dining room is very very nice!
Beautiful floors. You're so lucky to they're still intact. I think exposing and restoring the wood flooring in the kitchen will definitely be worth the effort.
And psssssst...... don't mention the "m" word around DBD -- she has this strange aversion to the nasty little critters!! ;)

You are very observant...yes I found 2 old doors in the basement and decided to use one for a headboard....I get my new King size bed on Thursday since as you can see...my Queen boxspring would not fit up the tiny stairway.....LOL...so we are sleeping like university students on the floor...LOL...my hubby is getting nervous being level with the mouse population.......(bite my tongue..haven't had that problem yet......but we are in the country...so I am on the lookout for them....)....as for testing the lino.....it was only layed down with the kitchen reno in 1993..so it should be okay....I looked under the heating vent...and they nailed plywood over the old floor and then glued the lino...so thankfully they didn't glue it directly to the old floors...it will take some restoring but I think it will be worth it......even my walk- in closet has the old floors...well I guess the whole house outside of the addition has them.....in the basement you can see the old tree trunks that were used to build the house...it is so facinating.....I am thinking of getting my house "plaqued" for historical purposes...but not have it deemed heritage...because that could limit me as far as renovations and changes........the history on the lot is from 1808 and the house was built between 1850- 1880 ish......David Willson was a famous quaker who came here from Vermount and founded the Children of peace and he lived and owned this lot...there is 50 acres and we have 1...the rest is just forest....but I am sure development will rear its head soon...we are on the outskirts of town and they are trying to bring in sewers in the next 5 years...so development will soon follow...but I have my one acre....so they can't take that from me....LOL.........
I have to have them!!! They would look fabulous with my 150 year old farmers table!!
You really did score with that house. Those floors are great.
Do get your lino tested in the kitchen before you pull it up. One of my neighbours pulled up hers (original and no asbestos). She had the floor all cleaned and stained and it is stunning even though it's fir and really the subfloor.
Is that an old door you are going to make a headboard with?
welcome back................and i love your floors....nothing can beat 150 year old floors........... :clapping: just beautiful
