My house is a 1912 house. We've done all the major things like wiring etc. but we are burnt out and I could use some advice on our main bathroom, It's 1940's tub, toilet, and sink that is flesh (sort of peach) tone and we don't want to rip it all out. can anyone suggest what colours that would compliment these fixtures. I want to tile the bath area, new floors, and fresh paint. HELP!!!!!!

I agree it is hard to live with pink or peach coloured bathroom fixtures. My mother-in-law still has the original peach bathtub from her 1960's home. She just recently replaced the peach toliet and sink to ivory only because she had to.

She has a waffle textured ivory shower curtain and has kept her wallpaper in the peach/ivory/spiced tones. The pattern is nice and works well with the peach. With added artwork her bathroom is quite nice. If money is tight right now then keep your paint and tile simple.

Keep us posted on your decision.

I could probably manage to work with pink - but peach is out of the question.

Burnout or not I think the previous poster is right. You would be better off to bite the bullet and do one more job. I think you'll be happier in the long run.

I had a pink bathroom. I tried and tried and tried to work with it. In the end, I just couldn't stand it any more! We pulled out the pink toilet and pedastal sink, and replaced them with simple white ones from HD. About $250 total for the two fixtures. The pink tile ran 2/3 of the way up the wall. That we primed and painted with BM Cloud White in an oil semi-gloss. The floor got new 12x12 ceramic. in a cream colour, and we painted a soft cream on the wall above the tile, wrapping to the ceiling. The shower was also tiled pink. We dealt with that by putting a cream linen-type shower curtain on that entirely blocked the view of the pink tile in there. For under $400 we had a totally fresh and new spa-style bathroom that everyone commented on. So, if you really LIKE the pink - preserve it and work with it. If you don't really like it, you may as well skip to plan B now. I tried 4 different solutions over about 6 years before I realized the real problem was I HATED the pink!

The best way is to work with the peach coloured fixtures rather than hide them. For wall colour BM CC276 Beachcomber or CC278 Kitsilano Beach could work. CC488 Biscotti is another colour you can look at, it is darker than the others and not sure if it will read pink or peach in your bathroom.

For the tile on the floor a colour like BM CC272 Spiced Rum would be nice and around the bath area ivory tiles to keep it simple. If you could find mosaic tiles to create a band to incorporate the floor tile and it can add some visial interest in the bath area.

I was thinking dark brown would be nice with peach but if it is more pink then black would look really great too. I would love to see the before photos too.

I think I would play up the retro look and go with black and pink. I would do this only if the sink etc are in good shape if they are not you may want to replace them as it will always bug no matter what you do to it.

There are a couple ways you could go with this I think. You could really play up the 1940's feel and do some research on a truly retro bathroom. Or you could do something a bit more modern with peach as the accent tone. If you aren't afraid of a dark colour, You could try matching a chocolate brown and some beige to your bathroom (maybe chocolate brown walls with beige flooring) then do beige and peach towel.

Keep the tiles and flooring quite neutral. It's the paint that can add the drama. I am thinking a nice warm gray with the flesh tone. Give me some time to pull colours.

Hi Corrine.

There is a really great retro renovation blog you should check out. They just did a whole bunch of posts on Pink bathrooms.

For additional inspiration, there is also a Flickr group "Save the Pink Bathrooms" http://www.flickr.com/groups/savethepinkbathrooms/.

Personally, I adore them. Who doesn't look pretty in a pink bathroom - could the colour be more flattering? :D

I'd love to see some pictures of yours!
