We are planning to travel to Seattle this Sept. to visit some family. On our way home, we plan to travel abit through Missoula and Great Falls. I have never been there before. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where there are great shopping places or hotels? Any info would be of great help. I am so excited!!!

check out designer outlet malls (I think that is right name). They have them in all states and they are fabulous.
There is one just before Seattle in Tulalip (sp?) and I visited them in Napa/Sonoma areas last summer.
They have all top designers and fabulous deals in everything.
Remember your passport!!! It makes crossing the border much less problematic and be prepared to be searched and asked lots of questions by US border officers. My friend & I were just going to Seatle for the day and when we crossed we were 15 minutes in line watching him search cars in front of us and then he peppered us with questions. When he asked if we had any illegal drugs on us, my friend cracked up laughing - this was after telling me to behave myself. They also ask about prescription drugs so make sure if you use any they are in properly labeled bottles.
Use the ATM machines with an Interac card to get US cash. You will get perfectly good exchange rate without hassle of exchanging money in advance.
Enjoy yourself!
Thank you sooooooooo much for the information. I am just way too excited about it all!!! I contacted the tourist info and am anxiously awaiting my packet of info. Thank you for the tips!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whenever you enter a new state on the interstate hhighways there will be a Welcome Center. These have coupon books which can really help with the cost of hotels. If you have CAA, their books give you an idea of the costs around the area.
Montana has a speed limit of 75 mph and is easy to travel along even through the mountainous areas. We didn't stay in Missoula this last trip, though I have overnighted there in my RV a few times before. Reserve Street is the main exit (#101?) for the new stores and hotels. The hotels are right near the freeway. There is a Carinos restaurant not too far away - there are actually lots of places but I just happen to like this one. Costco is a little further along and we buy our gas there - you have to be a member. About 2 miles south on Reserve is a huge Wal-Mart. If you are going to do some Wal-Mart shopping this is by far the best one - some of other cities have large W-M but this is the best. Montana has no sales tax so it is a joy to shop there.
I remember shopping at a large mall but it is so long ago it may be replaced. I'd suggest you do a search in Missoula's home site and it will tell you what is where.
I would e-mail/call the Montana & Oregan tourist bureaus for info. They will mail you lots.
You will be going through Idaho too. If you end up in Couer d"Alene, check out the Budget Saver Motel. This is a resort town so prices are high. This was a basic but remodelled, clean motel for a lot less money. We stayed there twice and ate at the MoonTime Restaurant across the street both times. The food was great and so reasonably priced. The hotel is an easy walk to the downtown and lake.
It's been so long since I stayed in Seattle that I can't help you. The traffic is crazy, imo.
Have fun on your first trip out of Canada. Remember - check the rules and declare everything you buy. The limit is quite reasonable now.
