This is amazing they are real hero'sTwo "heroic" teens from Kelowna likely saved four lives by diving into an icy lake and dragging a family trapped in a submerged mini-van to safety on shore, Revelstoke RCMP say.
Staff-Sgt. Jackie Olsen said Matthew Jackson and Tyler Lockerby, both 19, were traveling behind an east-bound Dodge Caravan on Highway 1 about noon Monday when they saw the vehicle swerve across the road, hit a highway sign and roll over, before careening down a 50-foot embankment into Griffin Lake.
The teens pulled over and scrambled down the bank and plunged towards the van, about four metres from shore and sinking fast. First they retrieved three occupants and then returned for a fourth.
"It was heroic — it was completely selfless," Olsen told The Province. "Their quick actions probably saved a tragedy from happening."
Olsen said the family is from Alberta and consists of an elderly couple and two middle-aged daughters.
The occupants were first taken to hospital in Revelstoke and two have now been transferred to Kamloops.
"All four occupants are fairly stable now," Olsen said.
Olsen said one of the Kelowna teens had just turned 19 on Monday.
"I think it's a pretty remarkable way to start out your 19th year," she said.

I saw a interview of them on TV and they were so humble about the whole thing. After it was over they just got in their work truck and went to work. It is so nice to know there are some really great young people out there and not just gangs and thugs.
Thank-you for sharing this positive story....I hope these fine young men are recoginized for their bravery.
great story thank you for sharing!
I only wish our national news would highlight the positive stuff young people do everyday!
This could have had a most tragic ending if not for these young heroes. Great story!
