We are building a new home and it's time to make some decisions regarding cabinetry. I have 2 questions for anyone who can help:
1. ever seen 50" upper cabinets? We have a 9-foot ceiling and I want to go to the ceiling without stacking a smaller set of "display" cabinets on top, so I thought we could do some nice, tall uppers. My kitchen guy looked very perplexed. Is this that uncommon? and 2. How do I properly mix colours of cabinetry? Any ideas or links to some images/info would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have tall upper cabinets (53 inches including crown molding). A mix between solid doors and glass topped doors. The all are however one solid unit.
Here is my builders website. Go through the photos of the various homes and you can see both styles of cabinets

I don't think I have ever seen 50 " cabinets myself. I think the problem might be the doors would start to twist because of the length of them plus I think visually, they would be too long. I like the look of the a 20" cabinet on top of the regular cabinets and then have either glass doors with lights or solid doors. I have attached some links for you to look at and maybe this will help. When mixing cabinets, have the island different than the wall (upper and lower) cabinets or have the lower cabinets a darker colour than the uppper cabinets.
