Holy crap....sorry for the vent...but they say that things happen in three's and as my luck would have it ...it did....

First....the basement floods...the pump went kaput in my laundry room....$1500 bucks.......and a day lost waiting for the plumber....

2nd.....nail in the car tire...cannot be fixed...new tire...$350 bucks..and 2 hours at the dealership.....

3rd.....HARD DRIVE FRIES on the computer....BUZZ...................lost all my kids pictures from the past 3 years................PRICELESS..................(.and $300 bucks to the Geek Squad for a new drive, a back up drive and a lot of wasted diagnostics....).aagrh....

So now I sound like the commercial....................what a week....but I am now back....

I have spent the past 4 hours re-installing every program................when I booted up my computer...the only icon I had was the recycling bin............ :hairpull:

Sorry to hear that you had to spend all that money on things that you can't enjoy.

I just broke a tooth and had to get a crown.....$900....I was told that I got a deal! Plus DH's check up ....total was over a thousand. I would have preferred to go shopping for fun stuff or back to Cuba!

thanks LTD.....I have the old hard drive...and my hubby knows a computer geek.....( and don't we need one...praise the geeks)...hopefully he can install my drive and retreive the files....I was thinking last night that I also have some videos of the kids.......with my little one saying her first words......you don't know what you miss until it is gone................shucks....oh well...I did my first back up last night......and I will continue with a once a week backup to ensure this never happens again.............I hope that others will listen...and back up their photos....they even have this USB key thing that you just plug in ..download and the pictures are portable....you can plug it into another computer........and by the way I learned that no one is using floppy disks anymore...you can also download documents on that USB thingy instead........anyways not all was lost.....I learned a lot obout my computer........including how to pop out memory boards to replace or test them................fun................

trynto........my DS's computer got fried last year and as smart as he is, he never had a backup for a website that he manages, so therefore he thought he lost everything. He went to one of the computer stores and and this guy does this repair business on the side and lo and behold he managed to repair about 95% of the files which took him years of putting together while he was studying in University........it was a big deal for him because he figured all his hard work was going down the drain.........it cost him around 300 dollars and my DS even gave him a bonus because he was so relieved......I had never seen him so desperate in my life, so try hard and you might be able to retrieve your lost files :) Good luck to you.

Even at that....there are ways to recover files. Don't throw the drive away until you know for sure it can't be recovered. I'm thinking Norton tools or some other software can get them whether or not that MS system stuff is working or not. It just takes someone who knows how to do it to hook your drive up to their system and pull the files off. Even if you can't do it now, save that drive incase there is a way to do it a few years from now. those files are still there, you just need a way to get them off.

Meanwhile I have to say, GET A MAC!!!! Especially with the new MS Vista/security crap looking like it's a total pain (I love the new mac ad for that (go to http://www.apple.com/getamac/ and click on the 'security' ad to see it).

im not computer savy at all, i never trust myself, so from the minute i bought a digital camera, i develop all the pictures first than download them onto the computer............sounds crazy but i feel better knowing i have a copy of them! :)

DBD...my operating system also failed so although they tried for a few hours...my XP was corrupt and beyond useable....now my hubby really wants a MAC.... :D ...........I hopefully can ask everyone that I sent emails with photos to resend them back to me...so I will be able to recover a few............I spent hours on the phone with Dell trying to get my information......it was my fault....I NEVER had backed-up my system in the 3 years since we had purchased the computer....LIVE AND LEARN as they say...............so everyone...do a WEEKLY backup....I bought an external hard drive to do just that.............

Geeze that is bad. what I find heartbreaking is losing your pictures. Have you asked if the files can be recovered? There are people who can do that and once they get into the drive it isn't that big of a deal.

Well that's a b*tch. Three better be the end of it - these are serious aggravations. Welcome back - thought I had missed you but not sure as I've been checking in while on dial up so have been reading at high speed.
