Thank you to all who helped me last time. DH and I changed chair covers and would like opinions on whether you all would still recommend the same colors as before.
Red suggested Pistol Pewter and Stoneware.
Jensenf suggested BM's mortar, nordic gray or metropolis.

The creamy white will be the same white as you see in the LR pics. The wood valance is the same wood as the kitchen cabinets. We did up a 12 x 12 sample board of both colors and we feel that due to the limited natural lighting in the kitchen the creamy white was what we had to go with. The Stoneware looks phenomenal too though. That is why we are going to paint powder room. It also has the same wood cabinets.
I agree 100% we will need to do some accessory shopping VERY soon for some color. Babysitter (Grandma) returns from down south this weekend!
you need to be careful in this selection as the colour of your cupboards could present a problem - with their yellow undertones.
Zen - from Paint Cafe would work beautifully for starters - but depending on your exposure, it could look rather buttery in some lights.
Riviera Terrace from Ralphie Baby would also work well as would Edwardian Linen.
Carrying a white through will require some stronger neutrals in the space to make it look like a conscious choice. The acid green will be a great pop of freshness for spring and summer! Makes for an elegant smoldering accent in winter months too when combined with grays and browns.
all of you for your compliments. We made a trip to Rona in Gatineau to get Pistol Pewter and Stoneware. They are both beautiful and not what we were expecting.
The decision we have made is we are going to take the creamy white through the kitchen. Stoneware will don the walls in the powder room and will become an accent wall in the media room, front room and on the fireplace. Not sure if we will carry it all the way up the wall on the fireplace or just the facade.
You are all so supportive and encouraging, thank you.
Will post pics when finished. Oh and we had forgotten about plants!! We will add them too.
thought when first looking at the pictures (which I invariably do before I start reading) that it was from an architectural magazine --- wow! it took my breathe away. I love the colour of your living room currently, I think it is spectacular with the wood. As for your kitchen, I think the lighter grey would be stunning and would highlight your cabinets.
Perhaps it's just because I don't have the "eye" - but I'm having a hard time imagining acid green anywhere in your space. The closest I can imagine is the green of new buds in the spring - really fresh. In fact I can imagine that from outside your fabulous windows.
Angel, your house is soooo beautiful.... you must be thrilled with it!
Anyway, back to *cmm*'s point... I was looking at a website earlier today of an east coast architect's recent work that a friend sent me, and noticing the same thing.
So I do think Angel's idea of carrying the living room's creamy white through to the kitchen would probably look lovely... the creamy white would complement the warm tones of the cabinets more than the current colour. And I love *cmm*'s idea of an accent wall in a rich dark colour.... looking at the pictures, I was thinking around the fireplace perhaps? Maybe the top part?
HOLY CRAP! LOL Sorry, can't help myself. Your home is SUCH a dream! Congratulations on making it become a reality!
When I look at homes with bones like yours (in the magazines and my dreams that is), I always notice that the colours are often very very creamy and light. I always wonder what the reason behind that is. My theory is that the colour on the walls is not what the focus is on. Its the furniture and accessories that are usually treated as 'art' and the walls are secondary. The lightness really brings out the architecture I think. BUT, having said that, I also notice carefully chosen accent walls in homes like yours. Sometimes its by use of wood panelling (which you have details of in your living room shot) and or a plastered wall, or one really deep, rich colour somewhere to create visual interest, but not continuously used throughout or on all 4 walls so-to-speak. Does anyone know what I mean? I could be wrong-just speaking out loud. I imagine anything you do would look fabulous though.
I'd DEFINITELY go through Metropolitan Home issues for some ideas first. I predict your home will be on the cover next year sometime!!! ;)
Oh my goodness! Your home is gorgeous. I am not sure what those 2 paint colours are so I can't help with that. One thing I notice is that I personally would like to add some kind of decorative accessory or something with a punch of colour. Perhaps a brightly coloured tropical plant or something else that is decorative..to stand out against the other tone on tone look.
I hate the idea of suggesting a colour for your place. It's obviously been built with a particular style in mind, and ideally one should be there and see the place to get a good feel for it. I'm not there so can't see or feel it. If you've come this far with it, I think you should be able to trust your own vision with the colour too. Nothing wrong with putting up some shade of white/cream -- it's classic modernism. In my own mind, though, all white or cream doesn't work as well in Canada as it does down south. In California they've got nothing but sun and surf, blue sky and blue ocean. We're not so lucky up here. We've got -- er -- winter; and it's coming fast!! I find I need more colour because of that. But if you want to go with white (or a cream), if it's what your inner eye and soul are telling you, then by all means go for it. If you're worried about the light levels in the kitchen, I doubt a soft grey would take much away from it -- but then again, I'm not there. Others on this site have far more experience than I at this sort of thing so might have a better feel for the situation without feeling the need to see the place.
love your house. Love the windows and the light! Good job.
No advice on paint.
Thank you all for your compliments. It is our dream home. Architect David Cole from Ottawa here helped us make it become reality. He is very talented.
What if we carried the creamy white from the living room through the kitchen? Too boring? Too stark? The kitchen only has the one window and it is NE facing with an overhang. So does not bring in a huge amount of light.
I love your house -- I want your house! Who built that house? How can I order one? Do they ship by FedEx? :-) --- Be careful, I know a couple guys from Chicago :-)
Any warm, soft grey will work, esp with those great, dark framed windows and that pale, wood cummerbund you've got running round the LR wall. Pick the right shade and it will set both off very nicely; as well as the area rug. Used on accessories (and perhaps window treatments), acid green will provide a surprising amount of punch and drama. It will work. I've seen if used to really good effect. However, if it's just too much for you -- and it would be too much for me -- you might think of burnt orange as an accessory colour (esp window treatments) -- sophisticated and warm. Perfect for the coming winter months -- a fire, your favourite red wine, your favourite guy (could be DH :-) ) -- very cosy.
really red heron...acid green? Been wondering how we will accessorize! Living Room furniture will not be staying. Wanted to live in home awhile before we figured out how we would decorate.
Feel like we need the bones right first. So stoneware hmmm...going to get the paint cafe colors on Tuesday. Bit of a trip, have a little one.
The lights are home depot! We love them. At night they are really pretty. Have the matching sconces in the half bath. The halogens cast different colors on the wall when lit.
I love your place. Amazing Windows. Do you mind if I ask where did you get your lights that are hanging over your dining room table?

10000000000000000000000000000000000000% on the Stoneware especially after seeing those stunning windows.
So glad you changed the covers!!!!! Beautiful home - can I interest you in adding in some acid green accents to liven up things a bit?
on colors, but your house is beautiful and in the pic, your kitty looks like our missy girl lol
