OK

Used heat proof spray paint (flat finish) and it is still perfect 2 years later.
Yep, I once painted a brass screen with BBQ heat resistant paint. Turned out great!
I just removed the brass coloured grill and sprayed with a matte black, no sanding or tsp'ing. I may have wiped it on my pants before spraying, can't remember - but so far so good and it's been almost 2 years.
Oh, for sure -- I was in a rush when I typed my reply and kept it short and sweet!! Any heat-resistant paint designed for painting metal would work. I just specified Tremclad because that's what I used on ours :)
Smoodgie...could she use that high heat paint for BBQ's??
Sure can!! Remove it (if you can), wash it with TSP, sand it, wipe off the dust with a cloth, and use Tremclad primer & paint (make sure it's heat resistant).
