3 inches or nothing at all!

We are having a black granite countertop installed, and after looking at google images all day... it seems like many of the countertops do not have that 3 inch backsplash. Is that the latest trend or are they just cheap? My contractors advised me that it would make the space between my upper and lower cabinets apear wider, since I have an older home. Any thoughts?

You are paying for the slab. When they cut away for the sink hole - you have essentially paid for it. They will ask you if you want it.

Similar to buying the whole fish.

I am not really keen on that overlap backsplash with granite. I like the flush look to the wall & then a wall or backsplash of other tile/stone:)
