please, help !

DH's aut's 50th wedding anniversary coming up (in 2 weeks !) MIL was maid of honour, although she was only 15 at the time; invitation to the sit-down dinner affair reads "memories only" . MIL is NOW thinking of things she can get as a gift. Happy couple's many kids are doing a scrapbook or CD or something of photos. I am ignoring the whole thing - I have only known DH for about 6 years so have no memories lol

any ideas ??? :hairpull: :hairpull:

music was my thought too.
my sister recently celebrated her 50th birthday, her hubby threw her a dinner party and as a parting gift to all the guests she gave each of us a cd of all her favorite tunes. you could use this idea to compile a cd with all the tunes from the happy couples era...including songs they courted to, there wedding song etc. it would be inexpensive to do, just some time on your part....and music always conjures up memories.

Thats such a sweet idea!!! Also sometimes you can buy reprints of old newspapers. Maybe you could get a reprint of the one from the day they were married.

Are you looking at things you/DH can do or his mom?

I'm thinking if the kids are taking care of pictures and such maybe taking care of music (something from the year...bing Crosby and White Christmas are from '56 I think, but there are sure to be others by Elvis and such so thatyou could get a cd that could be played at the party...Happy days CD's must be around that time frame). mabye a copy of one of the oscar winning movies of the year?

Can you bring a jello salad? That would be pretty mid fifties type stuff...argh this is a hard one.

Otherwise, if someone has a realy nice shot of the whole family, maybe it's getting them a copy in a nice gold (gold is 50th?) frame. Otherwise you could take a different tact and go for future memories, the next 50, and get a photo album for new pictures to come, or a new camera, something they can use for the rest of their marraige I guess. Or maybe, not so costly as a new camera, get a bunch of those disposable cameras for everyone to use at the dinner and those can supply some new memories.

Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, Andy Williams and Frank Sinatra were big in that era. You could do some research and compile some typical gushy romance songs by all those guys - also Patty Page, Rosemary Clooney, Ella Fitzgerald ans some others. Might make for some nostalgic listening for that couple. This is something you and your husband can do together to choose songs, sing along while doing so and cutting a jig or two in the family room while listening yourselves. Aaah! Romance, Romantic songs, Cheesy Romance novels from the 50s, Romance comics, maybe a vintage Romance Jigsaw puzzle.
Have some fun with this! :)
