I'm hoping that i coule get some help with fixing up the place i just moved into. I'm looking at doing a complete reno on it, all new flooring, paint, and furniture. now the place seems like its from the 70's beacuse of the bar, roof and fireplace but for some reason i like the bar the way it is and want to keep it like that much as i can. I want to decide on paint colors asap so that i paint it before i get new flooring in (i'm thinking of wood flooring in here, i was thinking darker like walnut or something) then i'm looking at new drappery and then the furniture. i've attached pictures of the bar the roof and the fireplace i mentioned above. i would appreciate any suggestions as they would be a great help. (i'm very bad with color cordination)
p.s. don't mind the mess i've just moved in and i havn't really put anything where it goes.... its sorta just been left where i happened to find room.

For colours suggestions from SICO, fireplace Charcoal Lines, walls Crosshatch
and for the ceiling maybe a shade lighter than the walls Sketch. You could paint the ceiling and walls the same colour and add crown moulding to make a nice visual impact.
From BM, fireplace Stampede, walls Brandon Beige. The dark floors would look beautiful and an area rug to anchor the space will tie it all in.
Leather or micro suede fabric is very durable. As for the drapes until you pick your sofa it is hard to suggest colours. Tone on tone stripes or a nice linen can work.
Keep us posted on your progess.
and yes I would keep that great bar (the base) and paint out all the rest so that it actually jumps out and becomes the focus piece. I think you need to update it, and personally I would forget the 70's thing. But that bar could look great.
Does that fireplace actually work?
TLC did a great basement reno show and the guy's basement reminds me a bit of yours. Your television is probably a focal point for this room so I would suggest investing in a great L-shaped sofa (sectional), with perhaps another great comfy chair.
I would also get rid of the mirror behind the bar. Are you into the 70's look? If not I would also get rid of the coloured panes above the bar. I would leave the actual bar but rip out everything else around it so that it opens up a lot more. I am assuming that you have a sink back there as well as a small bar fridge, am I right?
if you are not wanting to rip down the ceiling, you could tone down the texture by painting it either a darker color than the walls, which is suppose to actually make basement ceilings appear higher or you could do it a couple shades lighter than the wall color.....i also think your bar is rather cool, has that retro look

This is what I mean about trends. Someone actually thought that was a good idea way back when. I suppose it orginally came about to hide cracked and uneven plastered ceilings. Are you planning on keeping that or hiding it?
its not really popcorn but it is textured... its hard to explain it ... here's a picture
What is on your ceiling right now, is that a popcorn ceiling?
As much as I love dark floors they don't really work for me as they show the dust more and I don't really want to be mopping every day. I think they will also date a home since dark floors are a popular trend right now in the newer homes. As boring as it sounds I think the medium toned stains are more practical and if an area rug is put on top then they aren't as noticeable anyway. It's a big and expensive decision picking flooring so think long and hard and look at all the options.
Welcome. Depending on when you are timing that new floor, you may want to wait and paint after the new floor. The reason is it takes paint about a month to fully cure. New floor means oodles and oodles of dust as well as some dings in the walls. That dust on fresh paint is a total pain as it can stick for good. On old paint it pretty much falls off, so a good cleaning and then paint and you have nice fresh walls, no extra texture or dullness from stuck dust.
Meanwhile walnut floors are great, I love dark floors. To keep things from getting too heavy you might want to think of something lighter than black though for a sofa or plan on getting an area rug to break things up a bit.
What struck me with the bar and mention of black stools and such was diner style or 60's modern with black, red, white.
yea.... i guess the electronics and box of beer gave it away... i'm a guy.... no offence taken.
well i was thinking of either black leather or a undesided color of fabric for the loveseat, recliner and a couple of bar stools for seating. then getting a proper tv wall mount and stand for my electronics.
what shades of grays do you think would work. i have a program where i can change the color of my walls so i can post a updated picture if i can get an idea of what color shades your thinking of. and the charcol for the fireplace is intreging...
thanks again for the ideas... what do you think of doing walnut wood floors...
I was also thinking gray would look good. The walls could be a mid tone and the fireplace might be painted out charcoal.
The bar is interesting and can prove to be quite a focal point in your space. For paint colour you need to decide on furniture/sofa first than you can decide on what colour to go on your walls.
Have you decided on a sofa yet? What colours do you like, neutrals, bold colours. Gray is really a hot colour right now and can work as great neutral in your space. Charcoal gray or browns can both work in your room.
HAHA...the packing and the HUGE TV!!!!!!!!
:biglol: Mel
Please don't take offence...we're just having fun with ya!
I was wondering the exact same thing Mel. The packing looks like it could be the work of a male LOL
No offense, we are just wondering. :)
No suggestions for you yet...but I wanna say welcome...and am curious to know if you are a guy or a girl? Is it wrong to wonder that??? LOL
