Yesterday after thawing some frozen hamburger I made a meatloaf in the slowcooker.
I had planned to freeze some of it today in slices...

I know you can't refreeze meat that has been thawed, but what about thawed and then cooked?...

can I freeze it?
thx

I recently discovered you can indeed refreeze meat, even raw so for sure you can thaw, cook, freeze. Everybody seems to believe refreezing is a bad thing, but it's really not if the meat is handled properly.

Usually the issue is that refreezing (without cooking) changes the texture of the meat while refreezing after cooking doesn't usually have that problem. the other concern whether raw or cooked is how much time the meat has spent at the temperatures that can allow bacteria and such to reproduce so normally the recommendation is to cook first (to kill bacteria) then refreeze.

I had to look into all of this when I started feeding the dog raw food as it all came in huge packages and was surprised to realize I had been lead astray all this time when it came to refreezing.
