About that Loblaw's ottoman...

rbocska's picture
rbocska

There have been a few postings about the brown (faux leather) square ottoman available at Loblaws for $199.

Could someone that actually owns one do me a favour and measure 1) its height; and 2) it's width? I'm considering it for my living room, but as I have rather low-slung furniture I need to make sure it's not too high an ottoman for the grouping.

Oh, yes, and like another post-er asked -- Does it open up?

I'd do the checking myself, but I don't have a Loblaws Superstore anywhere nearby, so it would involve a bit of an outing.

Thanks!

I really like that suede & iron one too! Did you get it at Sears? I just saw it in their catalogue and for the price it's a steal!!

Yup, it's the fabric one with a suede-like finish to it. I just saw one colour, and it's a very neutral taupe. It will work very nicely with the bedding I'm planning on using, a mixed bunch of items that includes the H&H poppy shams.

is that the "suede" one? Did it come in any other colors? I think it would come pretty close to matching the padded headboard we made last year.

I have returned from our local Superstore and I now am the proud owner of the rectangular one. I'm very pleased with it! It's going to be fabulous at the foot of my bed. I have to keep it in the LR in front of the fireplace for now, as I have to work on getting a toddler bed out of my room.......should have that done by summer. In the meantime I shall just admire it in its temporary spot.

You're so right, mira -- it's a great feeling when you can create a high-end look at a fraction of the price. Much more impressive, too, when you can take an inexpensive piece of furniture and make it look like it cost much more!! It just requires some creativity and thinking outside the box :)

i just joined in...maybe a lil late ...I very much agree with all that you said about being able to buy what you can afford...at this moment in my life i have other priorities (like RESP,lowering mortgage ...etc) buying expensive or quality furniture is not on my list at the moment ....maybe one day I will .....at the same time I also want my house to have a nice style . I really feel good when I am able to make something that I have seen in a magazine or showhome for so much less than that price tag. I am really pleased when I can bring a similar looking item home for much much less. I am proud to say that majority of my house is furnished with furniture from loblaws, walmart, liquidation world,Ikea, home depot...

I beleive style shouldnt neccesarily have a high price tag,

I have had nothing but positive comments when people walk through my house...

attached is a pic of my foyer table from home depot...i got it for the whole set for 150 ...came with mirror, lamp and two candle holders (they are on my bedroom dresser)

the other pic is of a dresser that I bought from loblaws ...I have had it for 2 years now ....and still works and looks like new

these are just few examples ....

It might not have anything to do price point, what if someone wasn't comfortable having part of a dead cow in their living room? Maybe for them the fake stuff would be ok.

your room is lovely!!
in regards to buying expensive or not buying it..I can afford to spend a bit more, but choose not to..I love finding bargains, it's a high for me!! And if they can look so nice at the same time why not?? In the real world, some of us can't have it all...so i will give up expensive furnishings and go on vacation instead!!
Besides that way when I win big in Vegas I can buy more bargains! LOL!!

Sweetie I love how the rectangular ottoman looks in that room! Thanks for posting a picture.

The place I hac in mind for one of those is at the foot of the bed in my room, and after seeing your picture I'm pretty darn sure I need one too! I have a lot of (perhaps too much) dark wood furniture, including a 4-poster bed that I think is called a tester bed. The fabric upholstery will soften the look, and it will be a great spot to put all the cushions and extra pillows at bedtime.

I can't believe the way this thread has gone, and as someone that purchased one of those ottomans, well.......

i cant say that i have seen anyone on here being put down for buying highend, but i have certainly seen lots of comments about what is referred to as walmart garbage or superstore finds......the closes to what you are saying, is a comment that i may not want to pay 1000 dollars for an item that i may not want forever, but i dont see a problem with someone else paying what they wish. I do agree jelle that it shouldnt matter what people pay or where they buy it.....

I just think that many members here feel that unless they shop at Loblaws, Walmart or similar that they are not welcome on this forum. I am sure that if we put our collective minds together that we could find a way to get looks for less for everyone. Wouldn't it be a great use of the forum if we could network with one another and empower each other to use our creative hands/minds etc to make beautiful homes? Look at Mira and her headboard - I think that is a perfect example of getting the look without the pricetag and not waging into environmental/political strife.

BTW my neighbour said he would find the website info on how to make your own ottoman and email it to me today.

First of all I think you read far too much into my posts. I have in know way disrespected or insulted you. Apparently, now I am not allowed to express my opinion unless of course it agrees with the masses.

that is a good idea, i have even seen others bring in thier own plastic grocery bags, and same with paying for the cart.....by doing these things i have also heard that it keeps cost down in the store merchandise

my 2 cents.......

We always stash cloth bags in our car.
I walk a lot to pick up things and carry one as well.
It makes good sense to me....
I think they should charge for those bags....those stores try and keep their prices down...

janetc's picture

newbie, i dont insult anyone who has higher end products in thier home, actually the opposite, many, and i mean many members on here have beautiful highend decor in thier homes, and i love to admire it, not ENVY thier homes, that is not my way..... just because its not my style does not mean im putting them down or disrespecting thier choices, just as im sure the way i have my home is not your style and that is fine but no reason to constantly put down our walmart or superstore buys. If someone can afford highend and prefer to buy it for a timeless piece or because they love it, im happy for them but if they cant, i would not put them down because they had to buy a walmart look a like. Highend or lowend, what does it matter, we are all trying to achieve a home that we are happy with. In all honesty, if i had the funds and wanted a peice of timeless furniture, of course i would spend the money and get one that would last for a long tim.

I suppose the same reason why some members bash those that buy expensive items of better quality. They are free to state they wouldn't have that in their home or it isn't to their taste. But turn it around and apparently it is a crime.

I respectively disagree - this is exactly what this forum is about and people should not be shamed for expressing their opinions.

Then why do some members here try to make other members feel ashamed for shopping at WalMart or Loblaws or buying bycast leather furniture??

Janetc, you suggested that outdoor air was more of a concern than indoor air pollution and I responded to that comment.

I don't care where anyone buys anything. I do think it is important to be fully informed about issues.
