I'd head to the dermatologist prior to starting a new diet. It may not be the dairy products - perhaps things that aren't in it. Vitamin C is supposed to be essential for good skin. And then there is ....... And your chin is resting in your sweaty hand (glistening hand) while you read this. I noticed mine was too as I was reading your problem. Go see a doc first!!

Now for a good shaving cream once you have the acne in control. You are too darn funny.

Jen, you are too funny
Well, serioursly - don't complicate too much. I think you already know the treatment, but don't want to give up on your habits. Yes.yes I am talking about milk and milk products - it's not your friend.
I know from my brother's experience - he loves dairy products and combines with lots of bread and pasta. Oh, boy, his acne is really BAD!!. When he stops and eat other food - he looks very handsome!
So my advise - start from simple (diet) and try not to touch your face with hands, use mild cleansing (Nivea, Vichi,Clinique) and see how it goes. ;)

I have terrible skin as well.

I have done the whole doctor/dermatologist/medicine route and nothing works. I spent a fortune on accutane and it didn't work at all.

For me Polysporin works in an emergency to calm really bad spots down and heal them faster.

I use Glycolic peels regularly to sluff dead sking and the Peau Vive product line regularly. It seems to work for me. I buy Peau Vive directly from the manufacurer's. It's reletively expensive, but you only use a pea sized drop morning and night. i am trying a 20% peel right now from the drug store. We'll see how it goes.

I found a new product from Clean and Clear that is a clear fluid in a stick. You put the 'gel' on a spot before you makeup. It keeps the makeup out of the soar and creates a protective coating. It works really well while you are trying to heal your skin and go milk shopping. :) Smoother makeup makes for a happy shopping trip.

I would second the Serious Skin products but the problem is they have changed a bit. You can find them at the Shopping Channel and their glycolic cleanser and clearzit are really good products for acne. They used to have a special 'kit' for acne but I don't know if they still have that or not as it seems they are not carrying it very often any more. One warning with those products, which may apply to others, is your skin will get worse before it gets better as they pull the impurities out. it can be frustrating, but putting up with things getting worse for a couple of weeks can make all the difference.

You might find out if there are any dermatology pharmacies in your area. We have one here and they have all manner of products and makeups for various skin problems.

I've always had really oily skin and acne as long as I can remember. I've tried EVERYTHING over the years and FINALLY just got my acne under control a couple years ago after going for a spa facial. They used a product line called Phytomer and my skin has never felt more soft and less oily ever. I think what most of us with oily skin tend to do is over wash and dry it out, and not properly balance and moisturize.

Since that facial, I've been buying the Phytomer products from the spa and they are fantastic. They are fairly expensive, but worth every cent in my opinion, because my face is no longer full of acne and my skin is much more "fresh" looking - which completely boosts my self confidence.

Here is their website in case you are interested - I use the Oligo Pur line for oily and problem skin.

I had very good skin as a teenager but started breaking out later in life (hormones). I found the Serious Skin line worked for me, found it a bit expensive though and found alternatives from Neutrogena that worked just as well for about half the price. I had to use 3 different products twice a day for a few years and then it went away as fast as it came. I heard that toothpaste will cause reactions around the mouth and chin. If you have tried the lotions and potions and they didn't work perhaps a dermatologist visit is in order.

Adult acne sucks, eh? I had perfect skin as a teen, all the way until I was about 26-27, and then WHAM! I got hit, and hit hard! Mostly forehead, so bangs covered the worst of it. I tried everything "non-medical" before finally going to a dermatologist - different cleansers, eliminating food groups - and nothing worked. When I finally got in to see one, they started me on a very mild cleansing routine...apparently I was being too hard on my skin with OTC acne solutions. That helped things quite a bit for awhile, but things got pretty bad again last year (at least I thought so - the doc still said I had a mild case). I then tried retin-A cream, then tetracycline, and finally, as a last resort, accutane. The 5 months I was on accutane was not a pleasant experience, but in the 2.5 months since I've been off of it my skin has never looked better! I now use retin-A cream a couple of nights a week, more for the wrinkle-fighting properties than anything else :p I turn 30 in a couple of weeks, and I'm fighting aging every step of the way!

Anyway, the moral of the story is go see a derm if you think you need it! I struggled needlessly with trying to control things myself, when really it was a hormonal thing that needed to be treated from the inside out.

it is always worse in your own mind. Well, perhaps you need to look at the diet thing...no dairy. I know that we are supposed to change our deitary habits as we go along. Drives me crazy!!! I have to admit I can not eat one lonely french frie ( is that the singular...as if anybody actually eats only one!!!) it has to be the whole thing!!! Not that I am a greasy food eater I can't go there for other issues altogether!!! But, it seems that increasing my greens and drinking much more water has helped me somewhat. I am not saying that will work for you but maybe you need to experiment with diet. Oh yah, and by the way, they actually state that pressure on the chin area, i.e. telephone etc. are not good. Apparently it has nothing to do with possible germs on your phone but rather pressure on your skin...go figure....so maybe you better stop covering your chin with your hand?? :D

yes i went and at the time my skin wasn't too bad...and she told me to just cleanse my face ...apparently i wasn't ''bad'' enough...i guess it looks worse to me then it does everyone else...i keep thinking that everyone stares at it

don't like the sound of that. Have you actually gone to see a dermatologist?

like i said at this point i'll try anything...it's very discouraging..i find that i'll sit with my hand on my chin when i'm talking to people and stuff like that

I am not sure but I guess it is worth a try. You better go off dairy all together though and give it a good 2-3 weeks if you hope to see results.
I am sure it will be worth it if it actually works though!!

maybe rubbing alcohol on my chin...hmmm...might dry it out tho...at this point i'll try anything...i've read that dairy products can cause acne...which i'm a big dairy eather...i love milk with dinner and cheeses and milk in my coffee...i've stopped taking milk in my coffee ...but givin' up cereal is gonna be hard for me...

I often get acne on my chin from holding the phone against my chin. I try to clean my phone with rubbing alcohol often and I find it helps.

Well I did not have acne has a teen and now have it popping up in the same place as you. I see a dermatologist and basically he blames everything on the sun but we know why that is!! The solutions that are offered seem pretty drastic!! Others have told me that it goes away with time and to avoid a lot of products that only add more grease to the skin. Since I have a teenage daughter I have tried using her products but they only seem to make it worse so now I am using a washcloth, water and little bit of Spectragel.

Did you have acne as a teenager? I know they say that adults who did not deal with this during their teen years should definitely see a dermatologist for solutions. Otherwise, it is the cycle coming around again depending on your age.
I feel for you... I know that I am finding my skin to be very sensitive and I am using less facial cream to avoid outbreaks. Unfortunately, I do not think there is a simple answer.
