We desperately need advice on paint! We're partial to Benjamin Moore (a nod to the other paint poll posting) and so far we've bought paint samples or big paint chips for Barley (found it way too yellow), White Sand (too greyish/taupe) and Honey Harbour (too buttercup yellow). We want something in between Honey Harbour and White Sand - basically a bit of a golden tone so it echoes our golden-toned oak hardwood, but something with a bit of creamy brown to compliment our sage green couch and dark brown furniture. Pale Almond was the last colour sample that I bought today and I love it...but hubby thinks it may not have enough yellow! He's only seen it in the evening so far so hopefully he'll like it in the daytime.
Anyway, does anyone have any Benjamin Moore suggestions in case we don't like Pale Almond either? I feel like BM and RONA are my second homes!
Hubby and I are basically replicating this design from a Pottery Barn catalogue. We'll do the photo gallery with b&w photos, we bought a similar green couch, we're looking for a glass lamp and our coffee table and side table will be rich brown, will get a cream sisal area rug.

Here's what our den looks like so far, please excuse all the paint swatches  :

I have similar color furniture and we have decatur buff and love it!
The sofa and loveseat are from The Bay. The brand is Citation House and the model name is Blythe.
janetc - Avocado has a good dose of yellow, so I agree that the colours should work well together. I have heard people say to stay away from greens in a bathroom where you will be applying makeup so you might want to consider that.
redroze - Oops, I looked back at your inspiration photo and it definitely has more of a creamy hue than ET. And thanks for the nice feedback. ;)
Janetc - I think it would look great with an avocado green tub. Our couch and loveseat are green and Elephant Tusk looks really nice against it.
linny and redroze....i have really taken a likeing to that color....im thinking for my bathroom.....would it be good in a bathroom that i hate to say still has a avocado green tub :hairpull: ....sorry to go off topic! :p

[QUOTE=Linny]Here is what Elephant Tusk looks like with oak floors. I find it to be a good complement.
Thank you so much Linny, it looks great!
The colours that elephant tusk are made up of are yellow, black, orange, and grey. Hubby and I asked the RONA paint mixer and they can look up what colours are used to mix the paint on the computer. They can also tell you percentages of each colour. We were just resisting in asking for every swatch we chose, to not drive her crazy! The other thing we know is that elephant tusk has more yellow than creamy white, which is comprised of the same colours and beside it on the paint chip.
Hope that helps!
It is BM OC-8, from the Whites collection.
I would say that it has yellow undertones, but one of the colour experts may correct me.
is elephant tusk a BM color, i really like the softness of it...what undertones does it have?
thank you

And just so you have one more colour to test on the walls...Almond Bisque is in the Deisgner Classic collection.
that is too funny :biglol: :biglol: well regardless i think you have a stunning room going on there.... :)

Hmm, I haven't seen Almond Bisque. Is it in the BM historic colour collection?
Actually, we just ended up taking home another sample - HC27 Monterey White. I was curious about CaperGirl's recommendations for Dunmore Cream or Monroe Bisque, and although they were too dark, Monterey White was on the same paint chip as Monroe Bisque. We really like Elephant Tusk but I find it a tad too dark (than what we wanted) and my husband wanted something with a bit more yellow. I think Monterey White may be it...we already tried 8 or so samples so what's with one more I guess??
BM Almond Bisque is also a possibility - we have it in our LR/DR; although it may be too yellow based on your pictures from Pottery Barn. Just another possibility...
Janetc - actually the first pic with the shelf and artwork is out of a magazine - Pottery Barn! I'd loved to claim it as my room but it's our inspiration pic. Hah...
wow i can hardly wait to see your room done, the first pic you posted looked like a room out of a magazine........loved what you had done with the shelf and art work.......... :clapping:

Here's the PB media cabinet. Love it.
I will definitely post a pic when we're done! Here are some "befores"...we've gone crazy with the paint samples as you can see!! So the paint wil be Elephant Tusk and baseboards and crown moulding will be Cloud White. We're going to paint over the ugly red brick fireplace with a neutral paint for now, then eventually get it covered with drywall and a stone facing. We'll also replace the ugly gold fireplace door and install a new mantel. Neutral curtains, replacing the clunky tv cabinet with this beautiful one from Pottery Barn (well a custom version of it), a sisal area rug are also on our to-do list. Will show you the transformation as it happens!
I used Elephant Tusk in a bedroom and my oak floors are the same colour as yours. I love it and hope you will too. Good luck!
Great! Show us a before and after pic when you are done.
And the winner is...Elephant Tusk! We tried the sample and love it, it's exactly what we were looking for. Thanks for your help everyone!!
Pale almond in a room and it is a great color. It looks quite pale, creamy but if you use a white trim on baseboards and mouldings it really shows the difference in colors and is very classic looking. The condo that I saw it in also has floors in your coloring.
I used Putnam Ivory in my living room and dining room and it was gorgeous.
What about HC29 Dunmore Cream or HC 25 Monroe Bisque?
In your posted Pottery Barn picture, I think the wall color looks very similar to my office color, which is BM Muslin. I find it very light...with some yellow and taupe (more of a light beige than yellow). I don't know if you want to give that a try.
We have carpet in taupe, grey and cream. I missed that you had golden floors.
I like the pale almond but I like colours more deeper.
Someone mention Vellum CC-200 and HC-5 Weston Flax which are great colours. Also HC-2 Beacon Hill Damask, HC-3 Greenmount Silk and HC-6 Windham Cream.
Let us know what you finally choose.
Here's the lamp filled with sand and shells. Too cute!
Itsjustme - it looks gorgeous! And my hubby's sold on it I think - he just said it looks more yellow in your pic which he likes. =)
We're heading to RONA now, I've got a sticky with all of your paint suggestions. Anymore? Keep 'em coming!
Thanks for the lamp suggestion, but we really have our heart set on one that can be filled. Similar to this PB lamp but smaller (it's huge in person).
I have Pale Almond in my bathroom, and I do like the colour. Although I don't have green as a second colour, I have more browns and sand tones, I think it should work for you. It is subtle, not a deep yellow tone like Vellum (which I also have in my living room). Here's a pic of my bathroom. Goes well with white and silver.
This Roots Trumpet lamp is online at Sears. MIght be nice.
