Almost human again

It is with great relief to myself (and probably anyone downwind) that I am happy to announce I got the faucets etc. for my new bathtub attached and working this morning. Finally, I got to enjoy my new soaker and scrape all the dust off myself. Boy was that nice. Deep tubs are heaven.

I have also spoken with my movers (funny how fast you can get to speak with an owner when you stop a cheque) and they will be here this afternoon to help me find out where they put everything and to unload my garage and put things where they should have been in the first place. That took some discussions yesterday, but I am happy to say no swearing or swinging was necessary to get it all arranged. You should have heard them trying to justify their packer not having a pen to mark the boxes he packed and why their guys should be excused from just throwing everything in the garage. I was just shaking my head and it seems, mover management aren't exactly rocket scientists either.

I had tackled the boxes in the kitchen the other night only to discover that of all the boxes in there, only 2 were actually kitchen stuff. The others are all things that belong elsewhere and I can not find the kitchen boxes (day 5 fridge food in places unknown). Hopefully this type of thing is what will get sorted this afternoon. I really need to unpack and it's just impossible the way it is.

Anyway, here's hoping today makes it all right again and that this show gets on the road. I received one of my Costco rebates (from using one of their realtors) and I am itching to go shopping on it. The idea of bringing anything more into this house isn't working at all until I have room to bring more stuff in though. So real incentive to make space for the new flat screen on my list.

Inspections aren't something that are happening prior to purchase much in Calgary at the moment (and it's costing some people big time too...becoming a big problem). You go in with no conditions if you want the house. There was an inspection done on this house on a previous offer and I did get to see the summary as they backed out of the deal.

I do plan on having one done as I have some questions about a few things. What scared off the other folks doesn't bother me and I'm hoping the rest will be as I expect, some problems typical of an old house.

As for the sink I just checked the photos I took and can't really tell if there is a fine crack or a shadow. Either way, the sink probably will need to be replaced. Lucky for me I have the free Costco money. Maybe I'll find a pedistal type small enough to fit there. If I do replace I am glad to do it now rather than after I tile the wall that is for sure. If luck holds that will happen sometime this month so just as well I noticed it now.

BTW, as an update, the movers that came were pretty good. They must have been forwarned but couldn't figure out why certain things had happened. I imagine they realized I was not exaggerating when they found my coats (spring) and some pillows in the garage. There was just no rationalizing why those were in there. Meanwhile probably 80% of what I wanted is done, the rest I will have to try and deal with some other way. Still didn't find the food or the HRT... weird. I'll start some serious ripping and tearing tomorrow when I have some energy and better light.

Did you get a home inspection before purchase? If you did you can go back on the inspector.

Oh there is more on the realtors but I may save that until I cool down. So far I've been 3 days trying to do that before I email them a little note about what I consider to be rather unequitable service.

As for the plumbing. I just attached the faucet and water-turner-on thingie. the pipes were all ready so I can't claim any fancy work there (as you might guess from my vast technical terminology). The things had been removed to get the wall out when the tub was changed.

On to more plumbing... I don't know what it is, but everything goofy so far with the house has involved water/plumbing.. from bathtub to toilet to hot water heater to faucets (two counts; one missing, the other replacing), and new pipes. Tonight I noticed the bathroom sink has cracked. I know it wasn't cracked before, but it is now, a good one too. I have no idea how or when that happened.

I figure there are probably only two more opportunities for water trouble. The installation of the new washers (dish and clothes) and the sewage stack. Those are the only things remaining that haven't been touched yet.

BTW, did I mention that an air duct thingie fell to the floor in the basement when the cable guy was feeding cable? That should be an easy enough fix, new tape, new wire and thank goodness heat isn't a big issue at this time of year.

As for the movers who were supposed to be here around 2, then 7....it's now nearly 8!!! This means of course, another crew who will be in a rush to go home after already working all day. Well at least this time I have it in writing and signed that they own me some work and if they don't show up in the next few minutes it could be too dark for them to sort out my garage..I doubt they will cover any food. Their insurance is so limited... they only pay .60/lb on anything unless it can be repaired. What really gets me is that these were supposed to be reliable movers. I would expect this sort of stuff with the economy models but sheesh.

oh wait they are here.. finally

Don't give up on the faucet!!!!! Your realtor's comment that you made so much on your home.....THAT's NOT THE POINT BUDDY! Doesn't the realtor get it. You bought the faucet with the purchase!!!!!!!! In fact HE made the money (commision) on your great sale price! These realtors like to sell and run.

At this point the moving company owes you for all of the unfound spoiled food! I'd stick that one to them as well!

Can you see you got me going here? I'm about to blow for you.

Well, I am glad to see that things are improving everyday even if quite slow. I sure hope that you get some satisfaction tonight from the movers. Am I reading right that you instlled the taps yourself in the tub. That is quite an accomplishment if you did. Glad you like your tub. Keep your chin up, inb another couple of weeks you will be laughing at all this.
Maybe.....

Yes, it's hormone replacement. Unfortunately pharmacists here can't refill yet without a perscription and my doctor never allows any without seeing him. I'm not going to see him as I don't particularly like him at the best of times anyway so this might just be asking for regrets to go now. He's an excellent doctor but has zero bedside manner and manages to push my buttons. A lot of that is his perscription policy which I see as a grab for some extra billing.

Meanwhile, I'm not missing sleep or having flashes. It just takes every fibre of my being to not strangle stupid people (like packers without pens, movers without dollies or tools, or even one brain between them all). Whatever patience I might usually have for that sort of thing is completely gone so I am on a short fuse and craving orange juice, lots of orange juice for some reason.

It's 4:30 and I just found out the mover is held up until 7 pm (he was supposed to be here at 2). So it was worth me getting up at 7 am I guess to take the dog to daycare (and pay for it too) so she'd be out of harm's way. Now she will be here while they are here so it should be fun. On the plus side I was trying to sort out the boxes in the office and found my pots and pans (guess that makes as much sense as anywhere right now). So there is hope of having some cooked at home type food sometime soon I guess.

I also lost my Internet connection this afternoon :hairpull: . They tell me I can't have the TV and the computer hooked up at the same time until they can get someone here on Monday. This will drive me nuts as the only TV is by the computer and I am in the habit of having both on at the same time. On the fun side, after messing with connections and plugs and such while I had the tech type on the phone, I was trying to type and 5's kept appearing even when I wasn't touching the keyboard. I had a while of 'what now?!! :hairpull:" until I realized a box had toppled on my backup keboard and was pressing on the 5. Gads I didn't even think it was connected.

I can't wait until this is all settled and I can just get back to being my normal impatient, stressed out self. This extra stuff isn't helping me be a fun person at all. I need to get some good mojo happening.

what Is HRT.....hormone replacement therapy ? If it is that can you not get more from the pharmacy now ? It seems to be to a simple solution rather than have hot flashes and sleepless nights. LOL

Happy all the move is sorting itdelf out finally....a packer without a pen ?
Now that is an original excuse LOL :)

the lawyer sent a letter to the other lawyer who gave it to the realtor (since it was her fault I was neither told nor was it written in the exclusions) and she responded that it was an oversight she didn't feel she should be held to. My lawyer says taking her to court would be the next step. My Realtors seem to think I should just drop it because I made so much money on my house (they seem to keep forgetting that I also bought in the same market). Meanwhile, I still haven't seen a nickel of money because the very same realtor who forgot the faucet forgot to send my paperwork in on time and so it is still going through land titles and my money doens't get released until this house is squared away. If I end up paying any interest for this delay, she will be taken to court for all expenses.

I checked the regulations on realtors and the complaint process says the manager of realtor's office must be notified first before complaining to the board. So I am going to go that route. I don't care how much money I supposedly got for my house, this is a principal thing with me now as she screwed me on two counts. I have had to take out a loan to cover me until my money clears and that didn't need to happen as we had plenty of time to get all this done.

I will probably go after the complaint once I get my money and know if/how much it cost me in addition to a $400+ faucet. Boy these folks I'm dealing with are just not getting off too easy as long as those HRT are still packed. Messing with a woman's estrogen, money, and belongings isn't a good combo.

What ever happened with the kitchen faucet scandal?
