Hey Amy,
Just wondering how Shrek is doing today? Figured I'd start a new thread. I hope he's doing better...and I'm sure he'll be fine. My aunt has a cat that got its front paw caught in a rabbit snare. ( A noose-like piece of wire used to catch rabbits) Anywhew, he was stuck in that trap for days till he finally tore the snare free and made his way home after 6 days. He was extremely dehydrated and had lost a lot of blood..but was alive. After a week long stay at the vet, the paw was partially amputated and he slowly made a full recovery. Now he enjoys an almost regular life with his feline companion. My aunt and uncle decided that a 3 legged cat was unable to defend itself properly, so instead of allowing him to roam freely, they custom designed and built a catcage. Its a huge structure made from chain link fence that the cats have unlimited access to through their very own cat door and..get this..CATWALK!! They can still roll around in the grass and catch a few unlucky rodents that wander inside the cage..but are perfectly protected from bigger, meaner cats in the neighborhood..as well as from the rabbit snares.

I went and picked up shrek after lunch. I couldn't get him earlier beacause he had an allergic reaction to the penicillan. His tail is OK, the protruding bone was amputated, and the end stitched up. They had to shave the last 3 or 4 inches for the surgery, so it looks a bit odd. She (the vet) said once the fur grows back it will look better, the stitches come out in 2 weeks, and his tail is now 3 inches shorter than it was. Shrek scratched his left eye, I guess it was itchy from the allergic reaction, so they put dye in it to get a better look and gave me an anti biotic ointment. He'll also be on another antibiotic for the next week or so, to prevent his tail from infection. He seems happt to be home, although he's in hidding at the moment. My other cat Pheonix, won't stop rubbing against him and bathing him- I guess she missed her best buddy. Shrek likes the attention she's giving him, I heard him purring.
Kieran seems to be better now, knowing that Shrek is fine. I still have to make him an award. We'll see how he is when he gets ome from JK today, I think he's goignto be snuggling with the cat quite a bit over the next little while.
Boys are STRANGE creatures. Kieran decided he want's to keep the furry end that was torn off, so I'm drying it out. I guess I'll think of something to make it into or a way to display it for him. I don't know though, I'm stiil a bit queasy from the whole experience- I can't seem to get the images out of my head.
Thank- you everyone for your kind words and support, I really appreciate it.
Amy
