can you tell where I stopped to have lunch :D
This is one of the upstairs rooms (spare bedroom) I figured to pick the least important one to experiment on. This is the quick-fix, no-dollar improvement phase. The floors in the whole house are just awful, so I am trying to revive them without sanding/refinishing totally.
Mmmm, now that I see the picture, I am going to have to paint that little drawer/nightstand, n'est-ce pas?

Thanks for the info. I have to attack my bedroom floor now. The painter I had painting on Monday managed to get a lot on the floor which I didn't see until I moved the bed back....argh. I may just cover it for open house but would like it gone for new owner.
apart from elbow grease ??? I washed it, then scraped the big blobs of paint off with a screwdriver (carefully), and went round the edges where the paint spatter was with steel wool. Then I used stains, Gunstock (which has a reddish tone to it). I applied it to the worst scrapes with a foam stencil pad on a stick, then instead if wiping it off, I wiped it into the rest of the floor and left it. The worst spots (the deepest gouges) then got a 2nd go with stain, Special Walnut, which is really dark. I did half the room Sunday, it took about 3 or 4 hours, and the same again yesterday. The stains are oil-based, and will take about 6 or 7 hours to dry.
I have a Minwax cleaner, it comes in a litre bottle, you squirt it on and wipe off with a damp cloth, which is what I used to clean it with in the first place. Next step is to seal with the Minwax poly restorer, it is Magic in a bottle, and will seal and give the floor an even tone.
Now, that is the smallest room almost done (floorwise, anyway); still have the stairs, upstairs hall, master bedroom and the double-bedroom size living-room.
So what is it you are using on that floor to get such an improvement?
