Well I dug through my boxes of photos, I have way too many boxes! I found a pic of the bunkbed, it was taken 5 or 6 years ago when DH, my oldest son and my nephew assembled it. You can see how the new stain is much nicer on this wood.

yahuh...I agree with the dear boy...I wouldn't sleep there either!
amy79, the table looks great! I love the sharp contrast in grain colour.
When I say turned I don't mean really fancy, just a slight taper- similar to those legs except round. I love that chair, it's great! The benches I have in mind will be quite rustic looking, probably backless, with logs for legs and planks for the seats. God only knows when I'll get around to making them though. Winter is not convenient for these things, when you don't have a garage or a basement :(
Do you really want the legs turned as here is a Harvest table with plain legs.
I was thinking expense wise these would be less labour. :)

If you didn't see the post in D&D the table is 6'3" long and 3' wide. At the moment I've attached 4" diameter red pine logs as legs (bark removed). They were still "wet" when I got them and I had to use them, now they're splitting. So, I'm getting new logs asap, and when they've dried I'll have a local cabinet maker turn them slightly for me. The table is 34" high, to accomodate DH's size and likely that of our sons' in a few years time. It is also the perfect height for folding laundry- no bending at all! I'd like to make benches for it and get/ make 2 chairs for the ends. I think it will be hard to find ready made chairs that have a high enough seat height, and are inexpensive.
my son's are the same way, scared of their own shadows. My eldest leaves a trail of lights on if he gets up at night.
Thanks for the compliments 2blues and oreo, I had a lot of fun making it.
that is just jaw dropping!!! WOW!
this kid hears everything.....I think he takes after me....scared of his own shadow! -- I still take running leap from the bathroom to the bed at night (god only knows whats under there!!!)
It's funny, him and his little buds love to play on the top bunk (mess it up) and guess who gets to make it up later? My back wasn't made for such work!!! :D
That is too funny....but all kids at some time have a "thing" living somewhere in the house. Our kids it was the basement for awile...they refused to go down there unless a parent went down first. You know he maydecide soon there is something living under the bottom bunk and end up on the top one...
He may hear wind whistling as I doubt the insulation on the attic door is very thick or maybe there is none at all. In really cold weather the nails POP too so he may here that.
Kids gotta luv 'em... :)
It's showing as really red on my monitor....I like it....I like how the grain of the wood stands out. It makes me sorry that we got our son the "silver" tubular bunk bed from Ikea......he just had to have it so we got it for his birthday...now he refuses to sleep on the top bunk....the door to the attic is above his head and apparently there is something living up there......
I used Minwax in red mahogany, and 2 coats of varethane. I'm going to put a 3rd and maybe a 4th coat of varethane on in the spring, when the windows can be left open for a while. Hopefully I'll have legs by then and can finish them too.
Thanks for your compliments Foxxy!
My girl you are just too inventive and resourceful for words.
I can see why you did not just want to chuck that solid wood in some shed. You did a great job. :)
The stain you chose is really nice...what brand is it ?
