We have a white baby crib that has some damage, but I hung onto it with the idea I might make a bench from the 4 railing sides. It struck me that the bottom panel (that the mattress rests upon) is perfect for use as a chalk board.
Unscrew the 4 metal hardware pieces, and fill the holes. Ours has a large manufacturer's sticker on the smooth side of the board-remove that as well. There you have it-a nice rectangular surface, already inside a narrow frame. Paint the smooth side of the board with chalkboard paint, and paint the frame in either white or a punchy colour to your liking. One could also build up the frame with moldings, if desired.
I plan to hang mine in an old bar in our family room, which I am converting into a snack center for the kids. We removed the mirror tiles and shelving the previous owners had installed on the back wall, and the chalkboard will fit the space nicely.
