Sorry-here's another little mystery. Anybody know what this one is? My FIL gave me 3 of them. Two got planted in my garden but this one was temporarily hiding under some weeds and I just found it the other day. :o

Thanks Mary Anne, that's it! I took a look at pictures with that name online and they are the same.

I guess I better get out there and plant this last one!

Anemone hupehensis and A. x hybrid.....my book says: "erect perennial with a woody-based, fibrous root stock and suckering shoots. Long-stalked, round to oval, 3-palmate dark green basal leaves, 4-8 in. long, and smaller stem leaves, are sharply toothed, and sparsely hairy beneath. From mid-summer to autumn, branched stems bear umbels of up to 15 white or pink flowers, 2-21/2 in. across, with 5-6 tepals, the outer ones often deep pink outside. Plant in masses or in a border; moist, fertile, humus-rich soil in sun or partial shade. Some species may be invasive once established. Zones 4-8. "

I have them in my perennial border and they thrive there, north-facing exposed area. They are very graceful.

The flower reminds me of a wild rose too, but it has no thorns. The leaves are more like the Lavatera he also gave me. It's some kind of perennial shrub.

I'm afraid that I know next to nothing about flowers and so my guess is just that - a guess. But, I think it looks like a wild rose.
