I don't know about you, but i have so had it with winter. Enough already.
After having basically no winter at all it seems unending now. I have never seen such an accumulation in Calgary in a long time, shovelling walks everyday day after day just doesn't happen here, but it's been like that for weeks it seems, but I had hope...it warmed up last week and started to melt. Normally this would be a really good thing but turns out my swale in the backyard needs a little work and the sidewalk out to the car is about 4" lower than the driveway/parking pad. The whole walk was a flood after having all that snow. No biggie if you have gum boots and a dog who doesn't mind getting wet, but no such luck. There was also ice under that water since the walk is in the shade of the garage I can't get the car into (boy was I lecturing myself on not sorting that out before winter I can tell you... but then again, it's never been a big deal to me to park outside as we rarely have a build up of snow or anything).
I have never seen water build up like that in such a narrow space and so deep. So last week I was literally shovelling water instead of snow, by the gallon trying to get it over onto lawn. That helped. It would have helped more if I could have worn decent shoes but my feet are all swollen for some reason my doctor has yet to figure out and I can only wear my crocs (which have holes of course). Not fun, crocs and snow and water are not a good combo. Me and the dog with soaked feet trying to get to and from the car, sliding on ice, swearing a lot. I can tell you that having ice water gush into your shoes makes for shoulders up by ears and that wide awake feeling.
I also can't park in front, on the street which wasn't flooded since I live inner city, 24 hr parking restrictions and I never bothered to get a pass since I can park in the back. Lecturing myself again although not too heavily since it wouldn't have been valid anyway since my plate was stolen and the passes are done by plates.
The good news was a neighbour spotted my pond and brought over some wooden pallets so I've been hopping pallet to pallet across the pond. Then two days of great weather, mid to high teens and as of this morning the water and snow in that area was gone. All dry and I was so relieved since it meant I could go and get groceries. I thought I would do that Wed. since the job I'm doing should be basically done and it's been so warm for days on end what could happen? I guess I should have checked the weather reports.
Tonight about suppertime it started and it hasn't stopped...snow and more snow :hairpull: I've been up working all night and it just keeps piling up and piling up. I had to grab the shovel at 2 am just to be able to shut the back door when I let the dog out. Now checking the weather network and we have a weather warning and it's supposed to snow all day.
Gee I wished I had cleared the garage for the car. I wish I had normal feet or crocs without holes. I wish I had a parking pass. I wish I had gone shopping Tuesday. I wish spring would come and stick. I wish I lived somewhere that doesn't get winter.
Well I am going to sleep now and hope I get woken up by the local guy who shovels walks. I'll pay him double if he just shows up and moves all the snow from the back walk onto the lawn so I don't have a pond again when this stuff melts. I really am in no mood to shovel .
OKay whining over for the moment I guess.
