If so, I would love to hear what you did.
I am contemplaing this for my bathroom, round my claw foot tub. The tap end is about 4" from the wall, and there is a high window that overlaps the tub space, so doing any kind of shower thing is difficult, but I thought at the other end (about 9" from the wall) I could use the concrete as a shelf for shampoos and stuff. And yes, I know I would need to do the back, too, and tile the walls! We do have one of those hoop shower curtain rings, but I find it restricting - my last shower was a 6' x 3.5' walkin with a window and a bench .... ah, those were the days!

You don't really need to pour concrete. there is some stuff they used in my bathroom for the tiles that is similar to the cement board commonly used around showers except it's really smooth and can basically be left alone or covered with something. The name escapes me at the moment, but it is something like fiber rock board. I was told it's a relatively new product, water proof (not just water resistant), and very smooth, even smoother than drywall basically. It's also very sturdy (if memory serves, at least 75" thick) so I bet you wouldn't even have to frame it up to make a shelf. Call around to some building supply stores and see if they have it so you can see it. I believe it only cost a couple of dollars more than cement board.
As far as that shower curtain goes, I think they make some of those hoop type rods now that are wider than traditional so you don't feel so closed in at the shoulder. You may have to call a bath shop to find them.
