Anyone ever cut laminate flooring?

I suppose this is as good a place as any to ask. I'm wondering just how hard/tricky it is to cut laminate flooring. I have got to do my kitchen and have had the floor for a while but the idea of having to do cuts is making me nervous.

I have a miter saw and laminate blades for it but the problem is it won't cut the entire width of my tiles (18"). Hence my concern about how to cut it. I'm wondering if I should use something else like a hand saw or my skill saw or maybe even my Dremel with it's cutting spirel bit.

So, please if anyone can tell me how it is to cut the stuff I'd sure appreciate any tips or tricks.

it shouldn't be hard, just take your time with the cuts ! what is it, measure twice, cut once ?? and always remember to cut the right end off - I wasted more than a few cutting the wrong end !

I guess I can tackle this then. I sure wish I had a sliding miter saw or a table saw. Meanwhile I went and got some new blades for my jig saw (thanks for mentioning that one as I had forgotten about it). Between the miter saw and jig saw I should be able to cut the tiles I guess. Here's hoping.

I laid laminate in our old house - living room and bathroom - using just a jig saw. It can be done however, a table and/or mitre saw will give you straighter cuts. I didn't find it to be an issue because all the cut edges are covered over by baseboards, quarter round or edging. Good luck! :)

used a table saw as well, it was a good clean cut.....he did this with advice of two neighbours who had just laid laminate flooring.... he also had another saw here that would not do the full cut...im thinking a mitre saw but it was the smaller one....good luck DBD

when we did ours....i found that my mitre saw didn't cut the whole width either and i would have to flip the board over and cut the other side....so DH went out and bought me a small table saw from Canadian Tire....it was so much easier and went alot quicker....plus then when it came time to cut a board length wise into a 3 '' stip...i didn't have to use my jigsaw...it made a cleaner cut with the tablesaw.....if you have a mitre saw that you pull forward then slide it back when you're cutting you don't need a table saw.....but again my mitre saw was another inexpensive one from Canadian Tire

no problem - we laid most of our house with a mitre saw, it did cut through the width, but some of the floor we had to lay later after plumbing etc. was in and we used a jigsaw with no problem. The cut ends go under either baseboard (if you are replacing it) or quarter round and are hidden, so slight irregularities were no problem to us.
