My DH and I are flying to Montreal next Saturday. We will be there for a week. This will be our first visit. Can anyone recommend what to do, see, what restaurants to visit. :)

Oh dear, SusanB - sorry to hear that. If it is any consolation, the long range weather forecast indicates it should start to clear at the start of next week. Hopefully this will help, and we can all enjoy Montreal :)

the weather sucks right now. I've been working here 5 days / week for the last 4 weeks and we've had rain every week. I am staying at the Sheraton and it's a few blocks walk to my client's office along Rene Levesque - windy, wet blocks. I am really sick of the weather. Since I'll probably be commuting here every week through September, I can only hope that the weather will improve and I can start to enjoy the city.

Thanks Zulu. The closer we get to leaving, the more information I am gathering. Doesn't sound like the weather will be that great; however, we shall make the best of it.

Zulu - thank you so much for the information. This is our first visit to Montreal, and we are really looking forward to it. It is always nice to hear from someone who lives in the places we are visiting and get their recommendations.

Thanks :)

Well, if you like shopping, eating and heritage buildings, then you should love Montreal. The Delta Center Montreal is a good location. You can walk to Old Montreal and spend a day walking around seeing the sites. . Notre Dame Cathedral in Old Mtl. is a must see. There is a restaurant in Old Mtl called Bonaparte that we love. I have included their web site.

For shoppeing there are the usual Deptartment stores but also Simons which is only in Quebec so you might want to check that out. It is on Ste Catherine Street which is the main shopping street in Downtown but there is also St. Denis street which has many small boutiques and lovely shops and cafes and a lot of French atmosphere.I would spend one day doing St. Denis.
Everywhere downdown you will find many restaurants and cafes and terraces. There are so many good restaurants in Mtl. that I don't see you going too wrong. Crescent Street and Bishop Street have alot of Bars.

Have a great trip.

Seab, you'll have a great time in Montreal....if you are religious, you can visit St. Joseph's Oratory, there is the Notre Dame Basilica, which is much nicer than the one in Paris. We visited twice and always in the summer, and they always had entertainment in the square downtown.....very cosmopolitan city...you will enjoy yourself :)

you are making me homesick - not that I'm from Montreal, but I came to Canada from France, and I visited Montreal a few years later, and I felt SOOO homesick - you should have a good time, many fine hstoric things, lots of churches and stuff . . .

Hi Zulu - we are staying at the Delta Centre Ville. It says it is downtown where Old Montreal & the business district meet.

We enjoy historic buildings; shopping; and experiencing local foods and customs. We like to get a flavour of the community. We are 50+ and high energy! :)

What area will you be in. What is your age range and what do you like?
