Anyone had this happen to them??

Yesterday when I was driving, I noticed that my neck was sore and stiff every time I tried to look over my shoulder to check my blind spot. Now my neck is so sore I can barley move my head in any direction, and I have shooting pain in my shoulders and upper back.

I was fine on Friday night playing volleyball, and felt fine afterwards. It's only since yesterday morning that this mysterious pain appeared. I have no idea what's wrong or how this happened. It hurts like HELL. I should probably got to the hospital, but hospitals scare me :(

My neck felt worse today at work, to I left early and went to the doctor. Once he ruled out menengitis, he diagnosed it as a word I can't remember -- basically, it's a strained muscle. He was going to give me a prescription for muscle relaxants, but I told him I'd rather not take medication. He said to put heat on it, and gave me a prescription for physio.

I'm sitting here with a hot comfort bag on my neck and the smell of oatmeal in the air :)

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice -- sorry that a lot of you have had the same problem, but it made me less worried to know that I'm not alone!!

For $50, the pillow better work!! The woman I bought it from said it'll probably take a few nights to get accustomed to it. After the crappy sleep I had last night, I could probably fall asleep using a brick for a pillow tonight ;)

I also took 2 Robaxacet (well, the no-name version, which has the exact same ingredients and is 1/4 the price). Those pills are big enough to choke a horse!!!!

I appreciate all the advice -- especially the suggestion to lie on the couch and order my hubby around :D

Yeah, maybe I should hold off on the fireplace.... but it's annoying. It's crappy weather here, so it's he perfect day to do inside work. Grrrr!!

A friend of mine recommended sleeping on a buckwheat pillow. I'm off to check them out after TS. Does anyone here have a buckwheat pillow??

It used to happen to me all the time smoodgie. For the strangest reasons, and usually without reason. It's probably just a muscle spasm or pinched nerve. Not much you can do about it, it'll go away in a few days. But should you really be working on your fireplace? You should lay on your couch and order DH around!

I've been playing volleyball twice a week since September!! As well as badminton and basketball, so I'm pretty sure it's not a case of my muscles not being accustomed to the activities I've been doing.

I'm thinking it's maybe a pinched nerve somewhere. It just happened so suddenly and for no apparent reason.

A hot bath with epsom salts sounds good :) And yes, suzie, I remember your chiropractic experience. I really don't want to go to a chiropractor.
