My neighbours and I are getting very tired (although very good on the skill improvement scale) of throwing snowballs. Some pigeons have decided our roofs are their new stomping grounds and they are making a mess and being very noisy. I don't know where they came from but there seem to more and more of them every day. The snowballs make them take off for a while, but they are coming back.
One neighbour found out we can't poison or kill them and that if caught and taken elsewhere, will just return. All I can find on the web says it takes barbed or spiked wire to keep them from landing or shiny CDs but I can't quite see us doing all our roofs with that stuff. I wish it was warm enough to hook up the hose and the jet spray and just let them have it I'm so annoyed at the filthy things.
Does anyone know of a way to make these things move on?

Oh hey, good thought... a catapult...you have given me an idea that I didn't think of before. I have had trouble getting the snow balls to some parts of the roof but you just reminded me I have a ball thrower for the dog and that thing wings balls quite a distance. Fine time for the snow to be melting but luckily I have a large drift that will probably be a good supply for a while.
That should give you ample time to practise your catapalt skills
thanks for the link. I found a couple I am going to try (of course wouldn't you know it the pigeons are off somewhere so I can't see if I can scare them at the moment.. bummer).
Meanwhile, anyone know where I can download sound recordings (free) of things like hawk calls? it dawned on me today that it might be worth trying playing such a sound out the window and seeing if the pigeons take off. If they do...might be a reasonable way to keep them moving along.
Try this link, hope it works.

Well I'm pretty sure my roof is as clean as the other roofs.

Its very serious and different kind of problem but solved easily.First thing ur roof should be clean and there is no food or this type of stuff.
The pet hawk can solve ur problem.Best of luck
I have tried the plastic owls and they didn't work for me.
I do like the pet hawk idea :clapping:
I wish there was a way to have a pet hawk. That wold be so handy when it comes to keeping things like the pigeons away and let's not forget keeping the mouse population down. Yeah, that would be cool.. a pet hawk.
What concerns me is wanting to sell and now there is pigeon poop around which was never an issue before. As if there isn't enough to do to get ready to sell, now this.
try sticking a few fake owls around - that scares most birds off most places, but you might need to get creative about where to put them ! I can just see you all having windspires with fake owls on all the roofs on the street :biglol:
one thing we used to use in UK was to string some tin foil "bows" over the veggie patch, that kept birds from eating the seeds; the tin foil is light enough to blow in most breezes.
