i just received my order of plants and the forget-me-nots do not look so nice. more than half the leaves are brown...should i return them or is this expected? i am very "green" when it comes to gardening (and i don't mean i HAVE a greenthumb) and i thought i'd give this mail order thing a try. also, everything is so small...i am not sure what i was expecting but i have a feeling i'll have to wait years for my lavender to fill in - i should have just bought from the garden centre. does anyone have any experiences they wish to share??? also, because my bed isn't quite ready, is it bad to leave my plants in the container/wrapping they came in? i won't be able to work on the bed until this weekend (likely sunday)....

phone them if you feel the plants are not "up to snuff". I have mail-ordered from Hole's in Alberta and had excellent plants from them. Also excellent packing and quick service (the soil was still moist when the pots arrived!).
I usually order (or buy at the nursery) three of every thing. Then plant them in a grouping of the three. They will fill out pretty fast, and then over the years you can divide...and divide...and divide... And don't worry about leaving them in the pots until you can plant them -- a few days will not be a problem. I have even left them a week or more, but you have to be careful they don't dry out, and at this time of year, that they don't succumb to frost.
I use them and if something arrives brown I call right away and it is replaced. Plants do not arrive large, they arrive about the size they would be at this time of year. Mine arrive as plugs in clear plastic which I plant in fine peat in peat pots, until I am ready to plant them outside. I have many peat pots with stuff in right now on a tray in a sunny window. Have fun :)
Most of mine are container plants that I hope will grow down and all of them are sun loving types.
