Whole lot of us saw it... hmmm wasn't that impressed with it... have seen better. The "underworld" scenes are dark and scary, as is the wicked mother who lives there! but all and all, not bad. Farty scene was absolutely hillarious, think that was the most noise we heard in the theatre the whole time... a thumb half way up!??
i hear ya....i now live where hunting is quite popular...one time i was out back behind our house with my kids and i heard gunshots...well it was quite a ways away...but i really don't want to be out there when they are hunting especially with my kids...being a city girl...born and raised in Toronto (the beaches) one day i saw a guy walk across the street here with a dead turkey...hanging by it's feet...i'd never seen one and it was HUGE...i took my kids to the fall fair up here the first one i'd ever been to and there were chickens and bunnies and stuff there for shows and my 7 year old asked me which one was a chicken and which one was a rooster...well the older folks there got a chuckle out of me when i told my son that ''if it's not wrapped in plastic i couldn't tell you which is which''...lol....i never knew there were sooooo many kinds of chickens...really fancy ones that people keep as pets...whatever happen to cats and dogs?...the joys of a small town....lol
I still can't watch Bambi again - I totally remember seeing it as a young child and being traumatized about Bambi's mother dying. I hated hunting so much as a child and lived in an area where it was very popular. My dad's best friend shot a deer one year and I did not speak to him for months after he dropped off meat in our deep freeze. He actually gave up hunting after that.
My views on hunting aren't quite that strong anymore, but I still could not eat Bambi's mother!
my kids have neve seen ''Bambi'' and keep asking me to buy the movie for them ''cuz it looks cute'' ...so i have been having a problem trying to explain to my kids that ''Bambi'' is a sad movie...cuz Bambi's mommy gets killed by hunters...thinking back to what i used to watch...they really weren't much better...how many times did Bugs Bunny drop the sink on Yosimite Sams head?..and what was the deal with Bugs being a cross dresser?...and i won't even get started on that poor Coyote...you don't think about that stuff until you have kids...but that was normal cartoons for most of us...now i don't like letting my 7 year old watch ''Dragon Ball'' the one episode i had to catch...was on of one guy ripping another guys arm off...so needless to say we've scratched that show off the list...and whenever my son has friends over...i am the one to find something for them too watch and i always try to ask the parents if there is something that they are not allowed to watch...doesn't always happen but i try...just like i ask if they have any allergies....
DD cried at Brother Bear last summer when Mama Bear died at the beginning, so I am concerned about death stuff. She hasn't had much experienxe with violence. She was watching her older cousins play video games at a family holiday party - Mommy wasn't there - and came home talking about people being "kilt" and "deader". Lovely stuff. So yes, I'm a cautious mom!
Off to check Nick Jr.!
It gets fairly warlike at the end. The good robots and the bad robots face off than run at each other. DD didn't get scared though (she just turned 4). Maybe if they were people or animals she might have been afraid. Have you checked nickjr.com they have a movie review based on age.
my 7 year old when he was about 5 went shopping with DH at Walmart...when they got home my son was sooooo excited cuz daddy bought a new game...well it was a Samurai game...he played about 3 seconds of it...which was 3 seconds too long...DH paid $40 for this gross game that i told him he wasn't allowed to play anymore...right at the start of the game there was slashing with the samurai swords...till this day....when we go to buy my son a game...i've since them taught him the ratings...i.e...T for teen and so on....he now checks them before i do.....so does DH
I read the review Marma provided, and that looked like the worst of it - the farting jokes. I think I can live with that. It also said there are battles with the robots - are they violent or just silly cartoon stuff? How old is your DD? I'm thinking she is close to my DD's age if I remember correctly. Thanks!
Good for you. I thought I was the only one that screened everything, good to know there ae more people out there doing the same thing, protecting their kids from all the garbage in this world. Anyway we took DD to see Robots this weekend, she really liked it. One of the things I had a problem with was the big butt jokes and the farting games, DD didn't seem to notice though. If you have any other questions let me know.
i also do this . do you ever watch disney ?well , i always talked back to the tv , i so programmed those kids that you couldn't even stay stupid that even when i wasn't in the room listening to the words i could hear my kids yell out I WON"T REPEAT MOM! we went to see a bugs life at the theater and my 3 year old made his 5 year old sis and her 2 friends say it . he was worried i would yank them out of there! we had a good laugh out of that !
As soon as my kids were old enough (in my view) I started editorializing about everything the media spews into our homes: commercials or programs that promote sexist stereotypes, racist portrayals that slide into the news, unrealistic standards for the appearance of women, economic elitism - you name it! I wanted the same criticisms of these messages to be generated in the minds of my kids when they were "out in the world" without me. I think it has had some effect - they certainly seem to recognize these bad messages on their own now. They are also mighty sick of my editorializing!
I just don't get that people would actually buy that for their kids to play. And you are right - I am lucky now because I can control her environment. Soon enough I won't be able to. What is the rush to force your kids to grow up? I remember when it said "parental discretion is advised" at my house, the channel was changed!
I think that it is obvious enough that society considers some individuals more "disposable" than others - why would anyone create a "game" which endorses such an awful view of the world?
based a TV show on that very video game. What adult entertainment is that anyway...maybe for warped adults.
need for adults let alone kids. how sick is that . points for killing the prostitutes? you need to if you want to win i was told .
I always checked before I sent or took my little kids to movies, and I know EXACTLY what you mean about commercials - little ones do NOT distinguish them from the program. My son once told me in a panic I had to "act now" - he was watching a commercial for the latest Elivis collection!
I actually loved Barney the Dinosaur when my kids were little.
Mag junkie, I would not let my 14 year old play those Auto Theft and Vice City video games...killing police and prostitutes... No way!
it is harder and harder. you can't even buy groceries or a pack of gum in peace because soon they can read ! than you really notice the headlines . sex scandles . 35 positions to drive him wild tonight! etc., etc. etc. my sil knows how i feel and will not abide by this as she loves to tick me off , soooo no more visits over there , but her kids come here . sad huh ?at her son's 10th home b day party the movie was freddy verus jason , my nine year old went upstairs by himself so the nefew went with him and they played something else. i just heard that one of the video games was grand theft auto /vice squad .imagine ? rated mature fora good reason , its sick ! this was just over a year ago and i am still getting details !
We really shelter DD - the TV she watches is mostly Treehouse, PBS or CBC. I don't even encourage her to watch Sponge Bob! Not that I tell her she can't but I think she will see enough in her young life. We don't need to show her stuff I think is more suitable for a 10 year old! She's only 4!
And I really don't like the lack of control you have when they are on playdates. What other parents think is OK may be far from what I think is suitable.
Did you ever watch them when something out of their element is on - maybe even a commercial? That's why I like the no advertisements. She will just stare at something and then tell me it's scary, or that person is angry, etc. No thanks!
one of my pet peeves in life is people who do not pay attention to these things so even though you do for you kids they are exposed to it at other peoples houses or the language at school . is austin powers really necessary for grade 1? i think not ! thats shagalicious! ah, not for my kids buster
I know it just came out, but I like to check things out now that she's into going to the movies.
I haven't seen it but it got a good rating at rottentomatoes.com (check out the link enclosed)
I use this site all the time before I see a movie...it usually helps me with my decisions.
