Sometimes when perennials get "old", the centre of the plant dies. To me, it looks as if that is what has happened to your bachelor's buttons. When they get old enough that the centre dies, it is time to divide your plant. To do this, you dig it up, wash off the root ball and separate the big plant into several smaller plants, making sure each division has a good portion of lively looking roots. Replant the divisions and you have got more plants for your money! Check a garden book or gardening web site to get better instructions on division, as it seems to me some types of plants are better divided at certain times of the year.
could have been a rabbit, skunk, racoon or a neighbours cat during the night.
nope no animals......it just sort of fell apart. guess i'll tie it up
looks to me like an animal had laid there a few times. I would tie it up for now. Are any stems, leaves, roots eaten?
