We have a Hottub on our concrete patio and the wife and i have been trying to come up with some design to enclose the area (especially the tub for the winter months) and also increase our outdoor living area...we thought about extending the patio out to 8x 20 concrete to move the tub but $$$$ wouldnt make sense.....so we are stumped on some type of design....I hope that someone out there can help me with this and give us some great design ideas ...thanks in advance

Here are a couple of ideas I thought were good ones when I saw them and they would be pretty easy to build given the various types of trellis that is around. The alternative would be whatever you like between posts. what I like about this kind of thing is they aren't fence yet offer privacy and separation.
One of the pictures is what I replaced part of my fence with (it was just ugly old boards). There are all sorts of interesting panels like this available if you hit the right stores. I found these and several other designs at a shop here that specializes in cedar so the selection was much better than most of the big box stores. The price was also reasonable as I think I paid about $20 each for these.
Also if you are into building things, Lee Valley has a great book of patterns for lattice. IT shows all sorts of neat designs you could make panels from and have something really unique to give you that privacy you need.
UPDATE...okay....we have moved the tub and after a couple of weekends of back breaking strain...the tub is now moved....we will be building a pergola over it and i'm trying to invision something to tie into the pergola on the right side on a low-based deck with maybe lattice? so there wil be an area to block the wind and neighbours view.....Any ideas???? In the pic that faces the chimney side of the house the fence in the background ...the neighbour has an aboveground pool and deck a good 4-5 feet up and will easily see hence thinking fence on that side with privacy lattice
Sounds like a good start, we still have snow
here and where there isn't snow there is MUD!
Started excavating the area where the hot tub is gonna be moved (out and to the left of existing location) then looking to add pergola/gazebo (not sure which yet) will keep all informed and show finished results
I like the idea of blocking the area off with some of the above
trellises (not sure what you'd call them). It would take
much to amend your clay soil, and plant some climbing
roses such as King of Denmark which is pretty hardy
and easy to care for.
You might also like to try some clematis they can
be very pretty as well. If you prefer some easy to
grow cedars would be nice for privacy.
Hope you post some photos when you finish.
Here are some inspiration pics for you---------
I was thinking of doing a pergola over top of that whole area(from left side to house to right side of first door entrance) and extending the patio out to the left of the tub with either interlock or wood and put up a small retaining wall around it.The only thing with putting the tub over 1 more spot is on that left side it slopes a little more and water pools up on the concrete there
The whole backyard is ours and i have thought of extending the patio out...the soil is clay...doesn't drain worth a crap...the back area where the tub is is facing Southwest exposure.....Not sure of what zone we are ...I'm in Southern Ontario
What plant hardiness zone are you in? Are you
thinking of hardlandscaping or plantings?
Is the lawn your property as well? (I don't
imagine you would want to alienate that
space from your patio)
What direction does your patio face?
A little more information is necessary
in order to be helpful I think.
