So.. what do you think of my backyard design. I’m sooo not ready to commit to anything or even do it this year. Well.. maybe.. but mainly I got new software and wanted to see what I can do.
Right now it’s just plain grass, not even a fence.. though that’s coming in a few weeks. I put a basic footprint of our house in the back, correct elevation as well just to get a sense. This is relatively to scale. It should be pretty self explanatory.
Here’s the walk through.. come down the steps out of the house, to your left is an outdoor kitchen (including counters and sink)
In front of you is a ‘living room’, to the left and beyond a bit, the ‘dining room’.
The patio surface will be some type of concrete pavers.
Surrounding the seating area are some plantings and along the fence as well by the patio. I’ve tried to place small trees close to the patio for privacy.
At the back to the left of the yard is a small 5 sided shed, need room for the lawnmower, etc but it will hopefully fit in the style of the yard and not be too much of an eye sore. We’ll have nice mutined windows and a climbing rose along one side of it.
To the right is a grassy area. I would pave it all if it wasn’t so expensive, plus I know for resale most people around here want grass for kids.
To the far right is some sort of pergola/trellis system. I only denoted that by some small posts with vines right now as I can’t draw what I want. It will be for architectural interest mostly.
Around the other side of the house (opposite side from bbq) is a little niche for a potting bench.
I really wanted to include living/dining/kitchen area. Plus grass, plantings, storage and still have it look pleasing to the eye. Privacy is also important, especially in such a small backyard.
So.. comments?

Wow-your plans are really spectacular! I was going to bring up the shade factor, but it looks as though you have that covered too if the shade shown in the photos is any indication.
Great yard-I'm sure you will really enjoy it.
One thing to think about is do you want to put the fence up first we did that and then had to take out a panel to get things like sod and materials in. You will need to be able to get all those pavers back there and they are heavy so it sure would be easier to have them brought in on a skid than carry them by hand. Same goes for all the building material. I like the layout and I know for sure you 2 will make it look great just trying to save your backs with my suggestion.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Need I say more?....................... :D
3D mockups - great work - they give us a good perspective on your proposed changes. Is there a reason you would have the deck at ground level. My thought is to have it as the same level as the back door. If you are going in and out to the summer eating area, you will find it a nuisance going up and down the steps. I'd be tempted to have at least a couple of levels. The more variety the better. Another thing you might consider is a hot tub that comes off level to the deck. Even if you didn't install it but drew it on the plan it might be good for resale in a few years. Another advantage of the raised deck is outdoor storage. You could close off the bottom and store seldom used things under there. Ladders, extra lumber etc. There's never enough storage.
