I'm SO excited!!!!! We FINALLY have grass in our backyard!! Real, honest-to-goodness, live green grass!!!!!!!

With these shorter days, it's hard to find the time to finish up the yard. But at least we got the sod in, that was way up there on the priority list!!
Lisi, good to hear that your lawn is back to being green :) It DOES make a huge difference to your landscaping when you have a healthy green lawn. We have a landscaping plan with all the plants that we'll be putting in the yard. I can't remember them off-hand, but I'll take a look at the plan when I'm at home and let you know.
newfie, I can't wait to see what it'll look like next year :) Assuming the dogs don't destroy the grass before then. One of them keeps peeling up a piece of the sod, and our husky has this annoying habit of rubbing her feet after she goes to the bathrom and rips up little pieces of grass.
Just imagine it this time next year!
It looks great, I can share your excitement with lush green grass, after a very dry summer our lawn finally looks green again and it's so much better - was almost ready to rip the whole garden up! I like your fence and the view behind it (no other houses). Looking forward to see the rest, I'm curious about the selection of shrubs you're putting in.
A job well done
I think I'm the queen of mistakes!! I just jump into doing something without thinking too much about it. Fortunately, my hubby is the opposite -- he thinks WAY more than he really needs to!!
For example -- I was supposed to lay the retaining wall around the shrub garden area. I decided that making a larger curve than the plans called for would look nicer. So that's what I did. Then my hubby came along and pointed out that the bigger curve wouldn't work with the curve on the opposite side of the garden. So, out came all the retaining wall bricks that I'd laid and back to the drawing board!!
good morning to ya....like me I see u are getting your daily dose of H & H...one thing I feel sure of, those of us that get down and dirty in our yards ( and inside as well) appreciate the finished product more than paying someone to do it...and we do tend to learn from our mistakes LOL :D
All the work will definitely be worth it, I'm sure :) My hubby is actually the one who insists on doing everything ourselves -- I figure if he thinks we can do it, then we can do it :)
every minute invested...every bead of sweat is worth it...if you are like me, you hate paying someone to do something you can do yourself...results are proof of the pudding...YOU go GIRL!!!!
A perfect spot for backyard entertaining, or just enjoying yourselves-definitely worth all the hard work!
I hope I'll have some nice gardens to take pics of next summer :) At the rate we're going, we likely won't get anything planted this year. But that's OK -- the landscaping is the easy part compared to the hardscaping!! I just hope we still have nice green grass next summer.... fingers crossed!!
My hubby and I built the fence last summer. We designed it together, and then it took us about 6 months to get it finsihed. Can you see a trend here.... all our backyard projects take us the entire summer, plus part of the spring & fall!!
it's amazing the difference healthy grass can make....just love the fence...it looks great..cant wait for next summer's pics :)
Elise, I'm not sure what wood the chairs are made out of. They're called steamer chairs and we got them at Canadian Tire. They were on sale for $40 (regular price was $179, I think).
Foxxy, we laid sod. We tried seeds last year, but the ground was filled with bumps and divots and the grass grew in little clumps. Hopefully, the sod will take OK. We had a lot of rain on Saturday and it's supposed to rain today, so that'll help keep the sod wet :)
It looks great and a lot of hard work. Keep that grass watered well and fertilize in the spring. Did you lay sod or did you seed ?

Actually, Rosa would have been handy to have around when we needed to get rid of all the weeds and crappy grass!! ;)
The angle of the picture might make the yard look bigger than it is -- it's about 60' wide and 64' deep.
We still need to finish up some hardscaping and do all the landscaping, but at least the big jobs are finished. And it's only taken us since May to get to this point ;)
Maybe you can bring Rosa by for a visit after you plant your shrubs. I'm sure she would be more than willing to aide in their growth!!:D
.....a really big yard Smoodge, nice and open with great areas for landscaping and relaxing. The grass looks great, what an improvement already!!!
We're putting a shrub garden along the left side and back of the yard, which is why the grass doesn't go right to the edge.
