Basement ceiling

We've got an almost-finished basement -- the only thing left to do is the ceiling. I HATE those white tile drop ceilings, but I've seen drop ceilings done with wood panels, which actually looks pretty good. Does anyone have a wood ceiling?? Any positive or negative feelings towards wood ceilings??

Drywall isn't really an option, because there are things that we'll need to access behind whatever material we use.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated :-)

I appreciate your input on the wood ceiling idea. It's something we've been thinking about for a while, but we haven't been able to find much info on how to do it.

Now if we can only manage to get all the ducts and pipes and other random bits to fit properly in between the ceiling joists, we'll be all set!! :-)

I've never tried it but there's a woman who lives a few streets over whose son has this in his basement. He used the really thin laminate sheets, had them cut to size and put them up. They look really nice because he painted the strapping a dark mocha, and used the birch for the tiles. I've only seen a picture but from what I can tell it looks fabulous.
