Basement ceiling

We are developing the basement of our new home.  What are your suggestions for the ceiling.  I like gyproc.  My husband is investigating ceiling tiles.  He thinks about "down the road"what if you want to add something that requires getting in behind the ceiling (he may plumb water out to our garage in the future for example). There are a lot of options these days for decorative ceiling tile, but I can't seem to get the image of the ceiling tiles of years ago in the old "rumpus rooms". In fact, in some cases, decorative tiles are more expensive than gyproc. I would appreciate hearing your thoughts.

Thanks for the post BBG. Yes, my husband thinks the same way - what if a pipe bursts etc.  Then, what a mess to fix!

We went through the same thing last year. We lived in our house for eight years with the pipes, wires and beams exposed. I really didn't like the idea of permanetly covering everything up. Even considered finishing all but the ceiling. My wife would not stand for that.  What hepled us make up our minds was a christmas party at my bosses house. He had his ceiling drywalled and had just pay a pretty penny to have a plumber fix a leaky pipe and a drywall person patch it up. So we endied up going with ceiling panels and it looks very nice. And very happy with it.
